Hello Veterans! Wondering if you could help me out.
I've been looking at getting my first mod. Reading all the stuff about them exploding in people's faces when they aren't taking proper precautions has me really set on doin' it right.
I've been looking at the GGTB, which takes a variety of batteries/combinations, and has the "telescopic" battery dummy to make batteries fit if they are too short in the barrel of the mod by themselves.
I have read that stacking batteries increases risk of mishaps. I have also read that LiMn batteries are the safest. The largest battery that is an LiMn and works with the GGTB is the 14500, but it requires the dummy because it's too short.
Is using a dummy battery as risky as stacking? Basically, is stacking risky due to the way the batteries interact with each other, or is it risky due to the increased number of batteries creating more chances for failures?
The GGTB also takes a 17670, which requires no dummy battery, but it doesn't appear to come in LiMn versions, nor does it appear to come in LifePO4.
So... what's safer? An AW IMR14500 with a dummy battery, or a protected Li-Ion 17670 without a dummy?
There are pics of the GGTB and the dummy on the wiki page:

Thanks!
