If you ask this question here you will undoubtedly get one opinion. Yes, they are better.
Most of us that have switched to them breath easier, wake up without coughing, can be more active, can smell at taste things we haven't been able to for as long as we can remember, don't smell like smoke, and our overall quality of life has improved. To that point, you bet they are better.
We pretty much unanimously agree that ecigs are a harm reduction system. They are not good for you. The best thing would be to avoid nicotine all together.
If someone is going to continue using nicotine
vaping is "probably" the safer route.
There have not been enough studies to tell us exactly what we are doing to ourselves long term by
vaping. I am not a doctor but I can tell you that I feel worlds better after switching to
vaping.
