Both of my parents always smoked real cigarettes around me, so I wouldn't be concerned at all with the trace amounts of nicotine that you might exhale from an e-cig. What I would be concerned about, however, is the example you set. I would also make sure you keep your e-cig away from your child when you're not using it, as they may want to mimic you or even choke on it.

I agree with the previous posters.

Since we can't at this point say vaping is absolutely 100% safe... (neither is going out your front door, though)... I'd err on the side of caution. As adults we can choose to vape with an awareness that it's a pretty new thing & still being studied. Kids don't get to make that decision, so I think it's best to not take the risk.

I'd be more concerned with giving kids the impression that smoking is baaaad but vaping is okay. Well, yes, it is okay... if you're an adult, etc. But, I've yet to hear of anyone who's taken up vaping who wasn't already a smoker in some capacity. Many of us are using it as a method to reduce or quit our smoking. And though vaping is certainly better than smoking, imo, unless you're vaping 0 mg liquid, you're still indulging a nicotine addiction. So, I would want to be careful of the impression I gave my kids. If they are old enough to understand, talk to them about it & keep an eye on their attitude towards it.

Personally, I think people who are going to become smokers are going to become smokers regardless of what their parents do. Some of us are just more susceptible to developing the habit I guess. I know people who grew up with smoking parents and hated it, who now smoke. I was raised by very anti-smoking parents due to grandparents dying of smoking-related illness. My mom was telling me the other day that when I was little I hated smokers. In restuarants I would apparently very loudly say "Ohhh, that person is smoking! It stinks!" and so on. Now I smoke... so... I'm not going to jump on the anti bandwagon of "OMG if you smoke your kids will." But, I figure why create the issue if you can avoid it.

if you see vapor coming out when you exhale then yes nicotine is coming out too. your lungs don't differentiate between the nic and other vapor contents

I think the doctor addressed the face that there were NO harmful effects from the released vapor.

This isnt a cigarette second hand smoke issue..

Until someone more qualified than the Cief of staff doctor at UCLA makes a proclamation that it is harmful in any way, I am going to trust the professionals rather than what people think and believe there is no harmful effects..

My biggest concern with kids would be any access to liquid nic. That is definitely dangerous. Keep those supplies away from kids and pets.

Post of the day honors, right there.

As far as it being "safe" or not, let me offer this --- and I ABSOLUTELY am NOT implying this is a scientific study but ---

Did you ever playfully blow smoke in a dog's or cat's face? They despise it. They can't get away from it fast enough.

The other day I happened to be exhaling vapor as I crouched down to pet my dog. The vapor went in his general direction. He never budged. In fact, he lifted his paw and playfully swatted at the cloud.

Whatever is so offensive to an animal in analog smoke is not present in PV vapor.

Again, I'm not suggesting anything here -- just an observation. To the OP, you're smart to avoid the little ones with exhaled vapor, although I personally believe that it dissipates so quickly that it causes no harm. Going outside to vape seems over the top to ME... the next room over isn't an issue for me when my nieces/nephews come to visit -- although I *do* hardly vape at all when they do come.
