Are fancy $100+ mechanical mods a waste of money if you're still working with vivi novas and protanks?

If you only use your MVP at or bellow 3.7v, you should get the same results but a lot less can go wrong with a mech mod (no wires or electronics to be worried about). They tend to be used with low ohm setups (RBAs and RDAs mostly) to get higher wattage but it can be used with anything really.. My mom's favorite device is her k100 and she uses it with 1.8ohm vivi novas or protank heads...

Dude if your mvp works man you don't have to get a new shiny mechanical mod, just saying. But if you're into the aesthetics then the protank won't look that bad on a polished mechanical. My suggestion would be to watch some RBA videos on youtube, and get like a gus or something, with an igo-l, and try out rebuild able dripping atomizers. You don't have to worry about hot spots which is a big plus, and silica is cheap, and vapes great. And when you drip with RDAs you drip every 30 minutes to an hour, they're more like cartos in that sense. My all time favorite vape is an 8 dollar pheonix rda on a silver bullet with bobas bounty. Just look into the RBA side of things

i am considering a mech mod as a back up .. i like the simplicity and looks of it.... i use 1.5 - 2ohm dripping attie and low resistance cartomizer (sometimes in a tank) so i think it would be ok to get a mechanical mod... recently i am playing around doing rebuildables agat2 and iGo s .. so far i don't like the taste i'm getting with the silica wick and mesh wick =( so back to my bridgeless atomizers.... use vivi nova sometimes 1.8 ohms

yep i am leaning towards the k100 kit around 75 bucks

i use mech mods now...i use protanks and vivi's...i got the mech's for rba's but when i leave the house i don't take rba with me....then again i'm still new to rba's and dont' use them all the time even when i am home

the thing i like is the battery life over the VVs, i also like the mech mods look better when i'm going out for a fancy dinner it doesn't look like i'm carrying around a toy with lights and stuff

if you are getting a weird taste with the silica or SS mesh (which would be odd for mesh), then go with a cotton with. i use cotton in all my RDAs, and the taste is great. you just have to make sure that you keep it saturated so that it will not burn. as far as taste, i think that the best is a genesis aga-t2, but they can be a little bit of a pain with hot spots and wicking. i am using a simple Smok Telescope with an 18650 and it works great. i do a 3/2 wrap with 28g wire and drill the holes in my RDAs to about 1/16". they hit like monsters. other than aesthetics, i really see no reason to spend major money on a mech until you find what you really love to vape.

Beat me to it ;)

OK, I'll try to add something to this thread in a productive sort of way... "i am considering a mech mod as a back up"

Yeah, so did I. Now my Vamo is the backup for my mech! And a second mech on order with at least a third in my future too, I'm sure. Glad I didn't settle on a Provari right out of the gate or it would be collecting dust too! That's just ME though ;)

I'm a vaping noob. Just 2 months into vaping.

>Started with the Joyetech eRoll (a smart Li'l Genie!). Currently my outdoor vape-gear, usually under 'formal circumstances'. >
>One week and the Sigelei #8 (the Arnold Schwarzenegger of mechs!) happened. Wow! what a construction... solid, heavy, super-gauge stainless steel, perfect design & machining - definitely gives all hi-end mech.mods a run for their money. >
>Then the KTS Dual-Tone (in looks, looks, looks! no one can beat this Goldie Hawn). Was my 1st choice for an advanced Mod just due to it's visible beauty... was on wish-list for long with my local vendor, never materialized, thus purchased the Sig.#8 in between [man I did good!]... but the moment I got a deal - I jumped for the KTS... that tempting it is. >
>Then the K-100 Blue (a mech. collection is probably not complete until the Empire Strikes Back). This ribbed dwarf is perfect for stealth vaping. Nice to hold - uberti gizmo at metallic blue / silver. I had to buy it -- and won it in a YT review insted! How much better can it get? >
>That should be enough right? Wrong. Purchased the GP Paps today at the classies here... Oh boy!

BOTTOMLINE: This thing gets into u. I'm talking about vaping. Nothing seems to be enough. Nothing is an end by itself. We evolve... Our 'wants' soon overpower our 'needs'! So, which one is the back-up? And of which one?

Protanks seem to work rather well on mechs actually. It's not my favorite thing in the world but pro-tank+sturm in my pocket is a pretty easy and low maintenance going out rig which together cost me about $100.

I've tried protanks and vivi's on my ea and other expensivish 18*** mods but since I use those at home, I generally use a genny on them. Works just fine though, not the greatest vape in the world but decent. Protanks and vivi's don't seem to thrive at higher voltages, so I don't think you would be missing much.

What kind of results would one get using a mech mod like the k100 with 2.5 resistance coils on a protank or SR boge cartos, etc as far as vapor and hit. would the battery strength matter as far as vapor and hit as in more volts or is the battery difference more or less equated to battery life?
I want to dabble eventually with RBA's but not something I will get into any time in the very near future.

I use 1.6-2.0 ohm clearos on mechanicals with great results. The inexpensive ones like the KTS and K100 have wells that let the smaller clearos sink down into the head, making it more sturdy.

That said, I'm in a co-op right now for a couple Protanks as their 19mm width will sit just right on top of the two KTS mods, with no overhang. A Protank on one of these is a pretty sweet $50 setup.

Typically, +2 is the thumb-rule for selecting voltage on a coil, with a 0.5V variance. Since Mech.Mods have an o/put of 3.7V -- it'd perform well with LR coils @ 1.2-2.2ohms. Obviously few other factors could play-up as well, like the type of juice, the user's preferences, warmth et. However, this "+2" seems to be the basic standard.

And the above chart seems to be the basic guideline.

That's my favorite way to vape. I love the simplicity and quality of a well-built mechanical mod. Most of the sub-$100 digital mods I have feel somewhat disposable to me -- I know that they'll eventually break down. Whereas I expect my top-notch mechanical mods to last for years and years and years.

I agree. I have a couple mechs, kicked, and they are fantastic. I am running a 1.2 ohm coil with ceramic in a rsst, and it performs great with the kick.
