This post title will probably catch flack from some people. Anyways, I'm a flavor e-cig user not a cloud person. I am kinda new to it all but I've noticed some things.

The three RDA's I have to compare with are the Hobo 2.1, the marquis, and the atomic. So I admit, my deck is limitted.

So I read everywere and a lot of people consistantly say that the Marquis is the pinnacle of flavor. I have to admit my marquis is more flavorful than the Hobo, but not by too much (with the right coil and air-flow they can be neck and neck with some flavors). Still it is noticeable over-all that the Marquis tastes better. Out of curiosity I purchased the old standard for flavor chasers, the Atomic.

I've only had a week with the Atomic. However... With the right coil, it produces the same amount of vapor, and the same amount of flavor. In some cases with custardy flavors, there are even more notes to pick up on in the atomic vs the marquis. I've done vertical coils, dual coils, chimney coils, diagnol coils, big and small, you name it.

So I am sitting here kind of stumped. I mean, there's so much hype about this new atty or that new atty, and how this one is better than that one. When truth be told, some of the old RDA's are probably still right there at the top.

Now over-all I still prefer the marquis for other reasons. Easier to build on, less finicky, etc. I just found it interesting to note that something "so 2013"(date might be wrong) is really just as flavorful as one of the most expensive RDA's out now.

In my opinion it would be great to get some real unbiased comparisons of New verses Old RDA's when it comes to flavor.

It's all about the build for the individual atomizer and (almost more important) type of juice. I've been vaping since the end of 08 beginning of 09 and can easily tell you vaping (as well as RDA design) has improved greatly over time.

Take an early-ish dual coil RDA like a Patriot and compare it to a Derringer... a WORLD of difference.

These "flavor chaser" RDA's really do have distinct affects on the vapor they produce. The tiny, reduced chambers, low top/ceiling height, and ability to adjust and restrict airflow really make them more "intense" flavor atomizers by producing a more dense vape that is in closer proximity to your mouth... thus packing more flavor into the vapor and getting it to your taste buds in a quicker and more direct fashion.

That said, with so much of the vape experience being build dependent and down to personal preference... an old Igo L (I still use mine all the time) might be just as "flavorful" as a Marquis to some.

But yes, i personally believe the new trend of small, flavor focused atomizers are a very different experience than RDA's of a year or two back.

A lot of the hype surrounding new flavor RDAs is newer vapers discovering a product that is essentially an updated version of an old product. The Marquis is basically a Veritas with an improved positive post, more airflow options and a sleek top cap. The improvements might make for new options and more ways to dial in your preference, but it's still the same great flavor of the Veritas, just with updates.

In my case, I've been using the Origen V2 daily for a year, and now I'm using the V3 - improved top cap with a bigger airflow option, heatsink fins, slightly more capacity. It's still the exact same great taste, with a few functional updates. People will speak fondly of the V2, but you're not going to see many threads about it now that it's getting old. The V3 is new, so when it gets cloned, there will be a bunch of new threads for the people who've just discovered Norbert's masterpiece.

The Atomic rocks. I've got two of them and completely agree with you.

For me personally I really enjoy the way smaller chambers affect flavor. Things like the Atomic and the Trident, and recently the Quasar. I really like the Quasar because while it has a small chamber it's still 22mm outside. I'm not big on clouds or huge airflow either OP, so we're in the same boat.

I think in the atomizer world, the market is just getting absolutely flooded... Seems like there is a new "game changing" RDA coming out every week, and then the next week the Chinese clone hits the market...

I can remember when the Phoenix was pretty much the only RDA out there...

We're really to a point now, IMO, that all of the smaller or reduced chamber RDA's can be built to perform very well. As has been mentioned, the real magic behind any of these atmoizers isn't so much in the construction of the device, but in the coil build. I can almost guarantee that all of us who have responded to this thread build our coils different, use a different wicking medium, different juices, different resistances, different wires... I mean, the list of variables goes on and on.

Seems these days the products on the market are having a shorter and shorter life span, so when a reviewer says "It's the best" what I really think they should emphasize is that 1) it's their opinion, and 2) it's the best of what's readily available. In another 2 months that "best" atomizer probably won't even be available anymore, and they'll have to crown a new king...

Ultimately, the right answer is, and always has been, whatever makes you happy is the best! Heck, I have a crappy little IGO-W that I've modified a bit, and it's got amazing flavor. Nobody talks about them now cause they aren't trendy anymore... Does my Marquis on my Stingray X perform 20x better than my IGO-W on my Magneto? Heh... well, no... But the Stingray X with the Marquis sure does look better!

The market is very flooded.
I was always chasing the perfect flavor atty myself.
I started dripping with an igo w. Cheap and was what I thought was good enough. Then started the never ending atomizer chase. I thought it would never end.
I went through a magma, a hobo an Odin amongst others. I've found that bottom air is really great and certain designs allow for a better vape.
I used my Odin and thought it was going to be the only atomizer for me. I used it for 7 straight months.
I always wanted a VIKING, and when the VIKING v2 list came out I said what the hell.
I didn't think atomizers could really change that much. I'm not even looking at atomizers anymore. This thing is top of the line.
I never got a chance to try the side air thing. I've been told the hellfire raptor is as good as it gets for flavor attys.

The market is definitely saturated. Good luck finding something that gets ya to the point where you can just stop looking

Nope... Not gonna sign it... Wouldn't be prudent.

Flavor is better than the magma, better than the hobo and just a little better than the d8.
The airflow can go pretty wide open. I've vaped it around 50 watts without thinking it needed more air. I have no desire to vape higher than that. I run mine wide open. I run just about the same build as I did on my Odin, just smaller id's on the coils. I'm not a cloud chaser so I can't compare it to things like doges or mutations etc. flavor has always been the priority for me. But it is slightly more restricted than a side air cyclops style wide open airflow rda. But I like that.
It's a bottom airflow rda so the air has to come in and turn. So it's going to feel a little tighter than if it were just side airflow. Tark really outdid himself. I'm using it at around 45 watts all day long lung hits not having any issues or desire for more air.
It's not even hard to build. There's something about those post screws that he used that makes it awesome at trapping the wire. His machining is remarkable. Blew me away how smooth all the threading is.
It's expensive though. But if you can afford it though it's so worth it. I used to track what rdas were coming out everyday trying to find the next big thing. I honestly have no desire anymore.
Now a tank, that's another story... but the VIKING can be converted into a fluff tank so I might just need another viking

Nope... Not gonna sign it... Wouldn't be prudent.

KurrptSenate - I just mean on the forums not limitted to this one, there is so much hype about this or that. I've consistantly heard people say things like the Marquis is the penultimate. Now it's the derringer, or whatever lol. I mean like Wharfrat kind of insinuated, it's all opinion (by pointing out the huge oxymoron I wrote in my first post). Everyone is also limitted to their supply of atomizers.

I guess I just feel like a lot of people trying to do their homework might end up being mislead by the hype. Also I'd love to hear more people talk about lesser known rda's or rda's that maybe "came and went".

I definitely feel you cob, everything changes so fast with RDA's and ecigarettes in general. I guess I feel like with the ball rolling so fast a lot of good things might be missed out on. Cool to hear about the Viking II, I've never heard of it until now. This is what I'm talking about! If everyones just babbling about the new expensive thing that came out then a lot of good stuff will get missed out on.

Yes. imo flavour chaser rdas are over hyped.

Between the three you mentioned: hobo, marquis and atomic:
the atomic is your standard 3 posts in a row rda
the hobo is the improved design over that standard, with the centerpost made into a doublepost so you can tie each coil independently

this posts-in-a-row design, is simple, but it does suffer the drawback of assymetry

the marquis is a symmetric design.

I would expect the flavour of a particular rda is more influenced by the material it is made of than by the physical design. A copper rda will probably taste different from a steel one, and two steel rda's might taste different because of the particular steel used in production.

The material used the non metal parts is going to have an impact; an excellent example of this seems to be the magma, whose taste would be affected by the big white plastic block separator down in the drip well; this has been my experience with the magma clones that have; meanwhile I also bought a 22mm that doesn't come with the block but it's hard to compare taste on a 22mm rda to a 30mm rda; I already damaged one of the 30mm magmas while removing the block (one of the posts came out - doesn't seem to be threaded or maybe the threads got stripped?)

The Viking was a big deal when it came out but the modder stopped making them a while ago. Then all of a sudden on his Facebook he announced the v2 and I got on the list and haven't looked back. They're expensive, $120.
He's still got 5 in stock and then they'll be gone for a while because he's working on his tank atomizers.

One of the best features, it's really really hard to get it to leak. Took me a month of over dripping before I saw even the slightest bit of juice and that was because I added something like 15 drops and then got rushed back into work. I threw it in my pocket completely overfilled and when I took it back it had let a little drop go.

I have to disagree a bit, once you drop down out of superwatt range flavor Atty really do make a difference by small changes.
Looking over the M X thread everyone is in consensus that flavor doesn't develope until high power is reached.

Flavor chaser atty's arent designed with 50+ watts in mind their made with the idea of running a fairly normal resistance and power range. When you start taking raw power out of the mix design comes into play ,
almost any chamber will condense flavor when wicks are putting out 2 cubic yards of vapor, and the market is being flooded with subohm cloud chuckers cause that's what's selling right now.

I run my magma at .8 single coil. I'm not making YouTube clouds like it is capable of but the flavor is thick and the throat hit intense. And the vapor is still very dense,

My other flavor Atty is a senio dripper, same thing .9 single coil ( only option) and its got some of the best flavor yet. Is it more intense or concentrated? No but I sense different levels of flavoring then the magma, and its my fav.

Still with the price of clones its fun to play with old and new school for 10 bucks I just picked up a plume v2 and nucleus

Still waiting on my elm back order.

Whatever is new is popular and I think after chuckin superwatt clouds. If they want to keep selling attys they have to actually tune them better.cause you can only go so far with tuning for max clouds once a ceiling is reached

Has anyone done a review/build video for the Viking V2?

Could you expand on this? Basically...

If I were to get, say, a Marquis (clone, because I don't have enough money for the authentic), would my typical build not work on it? That is:

24ga Kanthal A1, 1/8mm-diameter screwdriver or drill-bit for wrapping, 5/4 wrap, dual-coil... comes out to around 0.35Ω.

So is that too low for a flavor RDA, or too high? I'm a bit confused...

Oh... and all my mods are mech mods...
