Are tanks a must with VV mods?

Was just curious (as I don't seem to be having luck with the tank system-at least with my Lavatube)...do people buy these vv mods and continue to use atty's or cartos on them and NOT use tanks? Or is it dumb to invest in a nice mod like a ProVari if you are not going to tank?

My luck...I'm pretty sure it's cartomizer related regarding the hole in the carto, but for some reason I just don't much vapor from the tank system (I don't know if it's because the hole in the carto is not large enough or what.) So I'm kinda worried that when I get my new tank setup for the ProVari I'm getting later this week, am I going to be disappointed with the new tank setup or will it actually perform correctly this time?

I'm getting a Phiniac tank and cartomizers from them (most likely they will be my first vendor for this), I haev not decided yet but am leaning in that direction. Nhaler also has a couple tanks I like too but I really like the glass with Phiniac.

Thanks

Tanks are certainly not the only thing you can use. For a long time I used 510 (dripping), 510-T and eGo-T atties on my Provari. I've used 901/drip-shield combinations.

The reason tanks are popular is that when they function properly, they are very consistent in vape quality and have a high juice capacity. Tanks keep the carto very wet, so it really is a "win" as a suitable compromise between juice capacity and taste.

Tanks are in no way a must, they are handy though if you vape alot, keeps from having to top off the carto. They also keep the atty and filler wet which should result in longer life of the carto.

I use CE2/Fluxomizer tanks and haven't used a filler type tank so I can't give advise on the sized hole or slot, generally speaking it needs to be bigger for thicker juices.

Without more info it does sound like a carto issue with your current tank. The tank just holds just around the carto so not much to go wrong there as long as the hole/slit is the right size. If you're running a LR or Dual Core Carto on the Lavatube the limiter could be kicking in which might be the issue.

Tanks are not a must. I didn't use one for a long time, and only started once my husband figured out how to build a tank for an atomizer.

I would love to see that. An actually tank for a commercially sold atty or a rebuildable atty tank like the genesis style?

EDIT: I also do not use tanks all the time. I do have one and hope I have one on the way. (I was told it was in the mail) but I mainly just use atomizers. The genesis style atties is another option and IMO much better flavor than the carto atties. You can get a very inexpensive Genesis atty now from Chopper71 right here on ECF HERE and he is a great guy to deal with. Knowing you though you would probably say that is too much fussing for you. i know how you like everything simple. You really might want to give them a try though.

Tanks are not mandatory, they just cut down on topping off or switching cartos.

To make them work correctly, try vaping the carto you're going to use in the tank
alone without the tank. properly filled, find the voltage that it works best, then
get the tank to "re-fill" the carto automatically at the proper pace to just keep
it filled.

Overfilled carto would be like a flooded atty, less vapor, muted flavor, lousy vaping....:)

Common mistake with dual coils is not providing enough voltage, amperage to provide
your favorite wattage at EACH coil, (it's half of what you would expect). Also many PVs
cannot provide the amperage to properly heat the coils in a DC, and there is major voltage drop.

I own 2 vv and 1 vari wattage devices, and I am yet to come across a tank that I would insult my APVs with. I also refuse to pay as much for a tank as I do for an APV. So that could also be a contributing factor. Plus after an HH 357 a carto just doesn't do it for me anymore.

I have agree/ a tank on my Provari? Just doesnt look right, plus I dont like the taste of cartos... Been Direct Dripping for so long now its become second nature.
I still love the Joye 510s, tried the Apex AVA $40 attys, was not that impressed.. I recenently ordered a HH357 custom 2.5 ohm VG atomizer... Hope it lives up to the hype.......

i use phiniac tanks with boge cartos on my provari. I hate atomizers.. and hate dripping. I just want to fill the tank and not worry about that for 2 days. The only time i have problems is when i dont fill the carto right before hitting the button and burning it. And when i make too big slots in the carto flooding it all the time. But now. after 20 failed cartos :p ive learned how big the slot needs to be, where to do it and i love it. The only issue now is to find that perfect taste.

Thanks guys for the replies, I didn't think it was "tank only" but I thought I'd ask before I drop 200 bucks Thursday.

I hope I have better luck with the tanking system using that device, with another tank and carto but of course I'm skeptical about the tank being a winner for me until I actually see performance come out of one.

BTW I do not like dual coil carto's, they are to strong for me and I had a bad experience with a 1.5 from Volcano where it threw hot juice up at me and burned me.:( To me it was like trying to vape a LR atty (which I don't like either, they tore my throat up when I tried them.) For the VV mod (at least the LT) my sweet spot seems to be between 4 and 5 volts. Once I start getting above 5 I can tell the throat is getting a fierce kick and I have to back off because it's painful.

That is who I plan on going with for my tank and cartos...but are you telling me I still have to enlarge the hole in the boge cartos too? Why aren't these things being done from the warehouse? I don't really feel comfortable doing that, would be afraid I would damage something internally and what happens to the metal you cut out? Does it get stuck in the carto or does it just pop out?

See Karla knows me all to well lol, that is def not for me, I don't think it's attractive at all. I much prefer a cartomator type like at Nhaler or the one that starts with a P (forget how to spell it) they are all glass with the caps and you can get like retro type decorations or the plain colored glass-that is totally my style (the latter.)

Honestly I have messed with tanks on about every mod out there and I just don't care for them. I like to switch flavors multiple times throughout the day and don't want to carry around a ton of tanks. They can be messy, and with the early tanks I hated having to watch what juice I put in them so as not to crack them and so on. I also feel I never got as good of a flavor with any tank carto, and was always fighting with under-saturation as well as flooding. I come to the conclusion I am not a tank kinda guy. I always have what juice I am vaping on me anyway just in case, so I may as well just top off and make it easy. Just my 2 cents, but to answer your question, no, you do not need to run a tank to enjoy all the benefits of a VV big batt mod!

I guess I just want the tank system to work for me because it's latest/current technology and everyone else is doing it (for the most part.) However I guess after going the Phiniac route, if it still doesn't work for me then it's not meant to be. In that sense then I would just continue using atty's and cartomizers (non tank related of course.) I'll keep my fingers crossed though...

I am with you on that! Single coil 3 ohm Boges are the only thing I vape! Not a fan of DC or LR in the least!
