Just wondering why alot of the user's here use avitars instead of a real picture of themselves? Do you ever wonder what other vapor's look like in real life? I know I do!

I chose my avatar because I was looking for a "smoking theme" (which I noticed a lot of folks here seemed to use).
I suppose I could've used a male based one to reflect my manly masculinity, but the current one caught my eye and I decided to go with that.
I am "real" though...not a rogue AI or anything.

I might get around to posting an OLDER picture of me if I can find it, less fugly in that.
OK its up not sure how LONG I will keep it up.. its about 10 years old, only diff is I am fatter now and more gray.

This is the internet -- no one is real.
This forum has the largest percentage of actual photos used than any other forum I've been on. I think it has to do with more people using web 2.0 stuff (FaceSpace/MyBook/FriendFace) and then thinking forums are the same thing.
Granted, this forum does try to go for the "social network" angle with the "friend stuff" and other 2.0 styled widgets/integrations. *shudder*

In fact, (don't know if you've found the same thing Heed) but for the longest time on most forums I've been involved in, it was considered a little bit crass and egotistical to use your own picture as your avatar!
My real pic is on my profile...I just didn't want to see my face on every post I make, lol.
