are you vaping to try to quit for good or vaping as a replacement for cigs?

I started vaping to improve my health and finances. I'm OK financially, but I refused to allow myself to continue to sink money into the money hole that nicotine is. So I just stuck with my ego and unflavored juice.

Health wise, unfortunately, some people trigger a very nasty disease called Ulcerative Colitis by quitting smoking. This disease seemed to get triggered by my trying to vape 0nic. And a family history that I was unaware of.

So I'm back up to 12mg to help my disease out- seems to like the nic- and the money I've been saving has been going Big Pharm now instead of Big Tobacco. But hey, during my hospital stays I can vape!

Got my first mall ecig (XHale) to use when I had to stay in hotels and drive a rental car for a month while out of state caring for my Mom who was in the hospital. No smoking in the hotel room or car pushed me to get the ecig. Got back home and continued to smoke for another year before I decided to try the ecig again, but this time I researched online and found ECF and other forums.

Wasn't really detemined to quit smoking, but really wanted to vape inside and not have the stench of smoke in my home and car. Within 3 days of vaping with a couple of 808 batts I found that I didn't have a desire to buy cigs anymore.

I do hope to quit vaping at some point.

Replacing a 2-3 cigar a day (inhaling) habit. I don't plan to quit but if I do this will be easier to taper off more control. I'm using things like chamomile in my juice along with vit c. I'm at 24mg right now but plan to move down a little. I get the effect but with fewer bad effects like coughing up a paint store of colors or as one fellow said coughing up butter.

One step at a time...decide when you decide, but stay off the analogs. You may come to a point where you feel like tapering off- you may not. At 1-2 ml of 36mg juice a day it's about as potent as 2 pieces of Nicorette. I find it to be less of a vasoconstrictor than caffeine, but if you're worried about it you could always take up drinking to dilate them again.

I've been vaping off and on for about 2 years- still hooked on nic, and that's fine by me.

All I care about is the smell. I don't smell like cigarettes anymore.

    That means:
    • I can smoke/vape inside (or stealth vape in the bathroom at work).
    • I don't have the stigma associated with cigarettes. People can smell it. They know you're a smoker even if you've never smoked around them. I get treated better at work (It's absolutely essential when interviewing for a job nowadays). I get treated better period!
The health benefits are there. It's just that I had never really noticed any health problems with smoking. Although, come to think of it, my allergies haven't been acting up quite as much since I quit.

Quitting vaping or going to 0 nic? Maybe eventually. Or, maybe not. I use 18mg. So, there is some room to cut down a little, I suppose. But, I think I need to worry about my excessive coffee drinking more. And, working on a better diet (I'm diabetic) is far more important than either nicotine or caffeine.

Nicotine in small amounts is perfectly healthy in my opinion. I'll worry about important things first, then the trivial, unnecessary stuff later!

I started vaping to quit smoking. I did that with 24mg juice. Then I realized I am still addicted, so I've been transitioning to lower nic levels. Before I got my BF mod, I carried a bunch of cartos and would load most with, say 24mg and a couple with 18mg. I would switch back and forth for a couple of weeks and realized the more I vaped 18mg, the more the 24 gave me a headache, so I stopped loading cartos with 24mg and vaped 18 for a week, then did the same to get down to 12mg. I don't expect it to go as quickly from here on out. I believe the only way I was able to do this was that early on I couldn't really taste the flavored juices and started vaping unflavored. $10.00 worth of liquids will last me months now and I can mix whatever strength I want without having to buy new juice. Hope this helps.

I love it and will never quit, plus I can by toys for it just like before but different. Can't wait to move to cali:banana:

I was a PAD smoker and just got into vaping. I have an Ego C Twist and vivi nova set up. I started out with 36mg and 24 mg juice and it has really killed the cig cravings. So now the next question is, should I gradually cut down on the nicotine over time (maybe to the point of zero or low nicotine) or just vape high nicotine juices forever...knowing that it's better than cigs...

Reason I'm asking is because nicotine I heard is not completely safe. Obviously vaping is a lot better than smoking, but it still has some minor issues. For example, nicotine constrict blood vessels... So I'm at a dilemma when it comes to a long term strategy... Has anyone gradually lessened their nicotine addiction by vaping?

PS: A couple of noob questions on the vivi nova and juice. When people talk about nicotine level in juice, for example...36 mg, is that 36mg of nicotine per ml of juice?

Currently I only have two tanks but I plan to try out a lot of juices. When one swap juices, is it necessary to completely clean the tank and the wick or is it okay to just pour in the new juice (and mix it with the remaining residue of the old juice)?

Also, I got the 80/20 juices so far and it has less vapor than I like and a little too much throat hit. I want to try out maybe a 50/50 juice. But I wouldn't want to waste my 80/20 juice. So is it okay to buy a 20/80 juice and mix it with the 80/20 juice to make 50/50 juice (as long as the flavor is the same, and I mix it in equal proportion)...

    Congratulations on quitting cigarettes!

I started vaping about 4 years ago, because I love new technology and thought they were an amazing way to quit smoking. I didn't last long as the old ecigs, and horrible juices, just didn't do it for me. So I went back to smoking, but still vaped on long haul flights etc. ie. places I couldn't smoke. Then about a year ago, I rediscovered vaping and all the new fancy ecigs wnd gourmet juices.. Whole new ball game!!! Not a single cigarette since.

Anyway, just my personal opinion.... Don't worry too much about the nic now. You can start lowering your nic later if and when you are ready. I plan to start slowly start lowering my nic from next year - down to zero. Then maybe start considering when to stop vaping. Maybe by the end of next year.... Not sure yet, but I do know that I don't want to vape forever.

    Regarding your last two questions.

If you don't mind mixing juices, then you can just top up with a new juice. Why not? But most people prefer to clean the tank. Totally up to you though.

Since you have quite strong nic to start with, it can easily be cut a bit. I would decant some of my ejuice into a smaller bottle, and add a bit of VG to it to increase vapor and lower throat hit. Actually I often do that to my 36mg juices, makes it go a longer way. I just never do it directly in the primary bottle.

Hey there and welcome to the forum!

I'm hardly a guru but here's my 2 cents worth.

While nicotine isn't GOOD for you, the general consensus appears to be it's probably the least worst thing in a cigarette, really. For example, someone (can't recall the name, i tend to remember avatars instead of usernames lol) said in the general discussion thread that their doctor said he didn't care about nicotine, it was the combustion/particulate nature of smoking that's the killer. Nevermind the formaldehyde, tar, carbon monoxide etc etc. Cut down if you want but don't feel pressured to rush the process.

PS: A couple of noob questions on the vivi nova and juice. When people talk about nicotine level in juice, for example...36 mg, is that 36mg of nicotine per ml of juice?

    Yes.

Currently I only have two tanks but I plan to try out a lot of juices. When one swap juices, is it necessary to completely clean the tank and the wick or is it okay to just pour in the new juice (and mix it with the remaining residue of the old juice)?

Sure, but be aware that the flavors will run into eachother. Vivi Novas are really easy to clean so you probably should just do that. Just rinse everything off under running water, blow it out and dry burn for a second.

And if you decide to mix some juices try to keep it compatible. Dumping a lemonade flavor in a coffee won't be yummy ever.

Yeah it's not going to like, combust or anything.

i started vaping about 3 weeks ago.. started with the little Titan 510's, but quickly outgrew... (was still smokign a few analogs a day)... now i have my eGo's and i am still smoking about 3 cigs a day. mostly the ones when i first wake up and after i eat lunch & dinner. i am starting to really really dislike smoking now though, so i am pretty confident it's just a matter of time before i just stop buying that "back up" pack of cigs...

Started because I wanted to quit smoking. I started about 2 weeks ago and I love it so far. Haven't smoke a cigarette in that time and don't plan to ever again. I love the gear and the flavour of the juices. I can see me getting addicted to vaping. Only thing that bothers me is the long term affects of it if any... No one really knows..
