BUENOS AIRES — Argentina on Monday banned the import, sale and promotion of electronic cigarettes, saying there is no proof they help smokers kick the tobacco habit.
The government agency that regulates pharmaceuticals and food issued a blanket ban for the devices in a statement.

The plastic cigarettes function as mini aerosols, releasing artificial smoke with or without nicotine. Manufacturers say the cigarettes are not harmful to the smoker or people around them -- a claim health experts reject.

Experts also said the devices, which are meant to simulate the experience of puffing on a cigarette, are ineffective in helping smokers end their habit.

"There is no scientific evidence that validates these products as auxiliary measures to stop smoking, nor their safety," said Roberto Lede, a senior official in Argentina's state regulatory office said.

That's because they refuse to see the scientific evidence that is staring them straight in the face. That and they would lose all that lovely money they get from cigarette taxes and from the pharmaceutical company payoffs to keep the competition away.

Buenos Aires is a lovely place and I highly recommend it for a nice vacation. Wonderful people, incredible attractions, very safe. The pink palace and the tomb of Evita are very moving. They also have - a VERY high rate of smoking, one of the highest in the world. They will come around eventually. People in Buenos Aires don't take any crap from the government they have a protest march like every third day.

Is there any scientific proof that banning electronic cigarettes helps people stop smoking? Or that it is safe for people to continue smoking?

Could not comment on the OP link. Followed a related link and commented here: Argentina Bans Electronic Cigarettes; Is the US Next? | The Red 99

No scientific evidence? Apparently some scientists don't keep up (or don't want to.)

I'm with the person who wonders what the hell being effective as a stop smoking aid has to do with anything. I think it's pretty true that it is but if even a small percentage of smokers were able to quit with it then that would seem to be a good thing. Even if not a single person were able to quit, well at least while they were vaping they would be smoking less. None of this makes any sense and in fact it's so ridiculous that it smacks of corruption. The officials aren't even smart enough to come up with a story that doesn't make themselves look like idiots.

Order a vicks vapor inhaler... Load it up w/ eliquid. Anyone asks, you have post nasal drip ;)

Juice up the nose doesn't sound like too much fun :D Actually if you were that hard up, juice is absorbed through the skin pretty well, you can get a pretty good buzz that way if you need to :D

Which stuff would that be? I've been researching smoking and nicotine for over 25 years. No, I am not a scientist. I was a smoker who struggled with disabilities triggered by nicotine abstinence. Every time I stopped smoking, I became very ill. So I went looking for clues as to what causes this. This all started before the days of the Internet, back when I got in my car and drove to the National Library of Medicine, took out a library card as a writer, and begain hitting the medical journals. You could make copies of articles for 5 or 10 cents per page (I can't recall which.) I have an impressive collection of photocopies of articles that date from the late 1980s. Today, I do my research at this site: PubMed advanced search

I'm sure this could be easily modded to vape e-liquid. Anyone asks, you have a cold ;) This isn't a e-cig?!?

What the hell kind of proof do they need? LOL. In what sort of bizarro world is thousands of people using them to quit smoking not "proof" ? Does a lab rat need to stop smoking for it to "count" ?

Actually, yes. I'd have to drum up the study but there is a study of nicotine in adolescent rats where it's the MAO inhibitors that provide the nicotine reenforcement in adolescent mice that made the difference with rats choosing nicotine over ....... or ...... as adults.

And the funny thing is, if I recall correctly, this study actually supports the idea of the effectiveness of NRP, or CRP being effective.
