All lights off. That is my vaseline art glass salt dish in the middle. I have a huge collection of Vaseline glass.

well, you can get lower density graphite at a welding supply store. It's copper coated and you would need to burn off the copper before using it. That brings up ventilation ???s and....if you want to go there, I'll have to schedule a "soap box" discourse on the subject.

ask Bert, tho. He's written great ventilation guidelines down on open glass lab(dot)com

our local distributor also sells graphite rods (mountain glass arts) near you....glasscraft (in Colorado)

Awesome! Where do I find that stuff? Welding supply?

even mid level density graphite works

Sounds like I would want a high density though right?

Do you not have a graphite reamer? When you are done using it as a mandrel (how does this not get scorching hot Freddy?) stick it in the pencil sharpener and BAM! you have a great reamer to make loops and open up tubes. I recommend a wooden handle or better yet, a glass handle.

even the low density works, but it disintegrates quicker with heat. With higher density the graphite can be reworked as a mandrel, but the grahite reduces in diameter. You do buy it in 12" segments, so you can tear off a little and build another bead too. Either way you are set. You can also peel the copper sheathing of a welding store graphite rod with a little help of an exacto blade and nails/other. I've seen thousands of boro beads made with compressed carbon (graphite) It's harmless as well.

yea, if you are using graphite as a mandrel, you can attach it to a glass handle and use it til it's a nib

The new release was a no go. Flaked right off. I have a thick wall 1/4 inch piece of stainless tube I've dipped in the old release to try next. I do have some low density graphite rod. How much working time will it give me Freddy?

Make! a bead and find out :D I recommend you stay bellow or near (pull away from the flame)the white stages while heating boro, it will prolong your graphite...it's cheap tho.
