I agree. It's like he wrote his novels expecting them to be movies. Conversely, some of his best films came from his short stories. I mean, Stand by Me and Shawshank Redemption were much more powerful movies than Carry and Cujo, lol. I do have to admit to going back to "The Stand" time after time.

The Stand is my favorite of his novels. When I first read his short stories, I was a little young for them, and they kept me up for nights. And while I'll admit to liking Stephen King, I do think he often goes on and on like a Russian novelist. ;)

Has anyone checked out the books from his son? I read a couple and really enjoyed them.

I haven't. I didn't even know his son was an author..... What genre?

I know that Salem's Lot scared the bejeezus out of me. I can barely stand to watch the film I get so nervous and I ADORE horror! The book is worse though because my imagination is much worse than anything they would think about filming lol

I have yet to read that one (Heart-Shaped Box), but every time I come across it I think about picking it up. Unfortunately, the only times I ever come across it are while I'm already in the middle of another book with others lined up for after  I don't read as much as I used to . . .

Freddy - at one time we talked about having a glossary with picture examples of all the terms, but we would need a forum where we could save it as a "sticky topic".
If we could get Bert a Supplier's Forum, it would be easy to do.
No need for a forum, why not just set up a wiki? You could have all the useful info right there in one place: sale night tips, types/colors/styles of tips past and present, custom ordering info, etc

Evening, all! :)

I'm going to have to give that a shot!

I had done a search looking for *really* scary horror books, and he came up. I don't know that it's the scariest thing I've read, but it's definitely spooky.

I'm like you, I can think up scarier things than I'm ever shown.

Give it a shot when you have some time. I also read Horns, which is more dark comedy horror, but I think I'd recommend Heart-shaped box first, because the ending of Horns is kind of confusing (at least to me).

I'll make a note of that one, too, I kinda like the dark comedy stuff. Never been a huge horror fan, I'm typically more fantasy/sci-fi, but I do periodically partake in the genre.

I can tell you a horror story.... I had to go pick up the three hellions tonight and now I have twelve cats in the house. How's THAT for scary? Twelve... sigh... litterboxes... running.... chasing.... jumping on my head in the night.... sigh.... gotta love 'em. Sure hope some more get adopted soon! At least the four babies are in a closed in condo! I know most people probably think I am out of my mind but I know if I didn't catch them and take them animal control would be called to trap and kill them. I couldn't stand that. Say.... maybe Bert could give away kittens as a prize!!!

I'm really all over the place, though horror does have a special place in my heart. If you saw the list of books I've read this year, I'd probably look like a crazy woman...oh, wait...

Me too. I like historical romance -- Eugenia Price... Celeste DeBlasis. Have you read the swan series by DeBlasis? I love them!
