Okay, here's a pic of the loop thing I've been using, works great with 32g Kanthal A1 and the wick that came with the ERA. Also a crappy paint sketch of what's going on there, lol.

Awesome thanks for the info! I am placing a silica order now. Luckily I have 100' of 32 kanthal as well as 100' spools of other gauges as I usually only use rebuildables now. The ERA however is my first silica one. I'm using the bottom-fed ERA on a DNA-equipped Ignis mod, so the variable wattage plays great with the atty. I am going to try a 5 wrap tonight using your wick setup. The method I have been using involves more material it looks like, its a piece of silica folded in half a few times, then I wrap the coil and insert the legs, once thats all set I use a small piece of wire to tie up the ends of the silica around the opposite side of the posts. So anyway I am going to give your method a go when I get home. Do you just use a single length of silica and do the one loops? You don't have to fold it up for more width or anything?
Good afternoon ppl....Cyclin,
I have to confess that I haven't yet rebuilt the 2-week-old coil that I'm still crankin on and I haven't successfully implemented the wick/coil setup I posted in the earlier drawing. To date I've used a single loop of the 3mm wick just as shown but I draped the loop end over the centered post and the wrapped both lengths around the post to connect the coil to the backside post holes (if that makes sense.) I then pull each leg of the wick through the coil towards the outershell/cover and trim it off when I have a fairly small figure-8 of the wick wrapped around the centered post. I formed the figure-8 to push the bottom run of the loop against the floor of the base like this:

When I was using the 2mm wick, I doubled the loops but it became a bit unwieldy. I also tried the bowtie method that Mel @ Budz Worx demonstrated on their facebook page but the wicking was so so. Wrapping the loop around the centered post grabs ever drop of the juice squonked into the atty as the lower hole in that post is the feeder.
However over in the REO forum the demonstrated the alternative, eloquent loop technique that I will attempt in the next couple of days. I tried it when building my current coil but was in a hurry and it was giving me some issues so I went for an easier Figure-8 technique similar in theory to the method I got from Sedge. So far it's working great but I'd like to simplify and reduce the clutter of the extra wick wad created by the folding.

But our landlord was out there taking care of the treaters and bringing me this awesome new barley wine. He knows I'm a sucker for good brews Daanng, need help eating that candy??Well, 5 handouts this year (between three separate groups), that's a new record for us. I don't think we had a single one last year, though I guess we're not exactly in a prime trick-or-treating location. Damn, now I've got all this candy to eat all by myself![]()

Awesome
I know!, I saw that and thought it'd be perfect for the Mrs but its out of stock already
Thanks so much Brew that picture totally put it into perspective. It seems the method I was using takes roughly 3 times the silicaCyclin,

Last night I packed everything I'd need to wrap a new setup on my lunch. Just an hour and a half and we'll see it in action! I'll let you know how mine turns out. Ok, need to do some reading on the REO forum really quick, then I'll give it a go. I have enough silica with me for two-three tries but so ffar I have always gotten the ERA going first try.
