I totally thought the same thing when I first saw it. I even set up the photo so it would look as if she was walking towards you lol, I wasn't going to say anything, but it's interesting that you noticed!

I have to confess that I haven't yet rebuilt the 2-week-old coil that I'm still crankin on and I haven't successfully implemented the wick/coil setup I posted in the earlier drawing. To date I've used a single loop of the 3mm wick just as shown but I draped the loop end over the centered post and the wrapped both lengths around the post to connect the coil to the backside post holes (if that makes sense.) I then pull each leg of the wick through the coil towards the outershell/cover and trim it off when I have a fairly small figure-8 of the wick wrapped around the centered post. I formed the figure-8 to push the bottom run of the loop against the floor of the base like this:
When I was using the 2mm wick, I doubled the loops but it became a bit unwieldy. I also tried the bowtie method that Mel @ Budz Worx demonstrated on their facebook page but the wicking was so so. Wrapping the loop around the centered post grabs ever drop of the juice squonked into the atty as the lower hole in that post is the feeder.
However over in the REO forum the demonstrated the alternative, eloquent loop technique that I will attempt in the next couple of days. I tried it when building my current coil but was in a hurry and it was giving me some issues so I went for an easier Figure-8 technique similar in theory to the method I got from Sedge. So far it's working great but I'd like to simplify and reduce the clutter of the extra wick wad created by the folding.

Haha that would drive me crazy having to do that all the time, at least it's working for you tho. I've changed my trifold wick, with more experience now I do taste silica alot, also due to having the 2 eras now I can feel comfortable messing around as long as I have the one good one. What I came up with is bassed off MWA's techniques, using a 5/64 drill bit I wrap the 32awg around 6 times getting 1.5ish ohms, I then pop that coil on the era loosly just to hold it, soak 2mm or 1.5mm silica in PG or VG just to compress it I guess you'd call it, fold it in half with a spare piece of wire looped on it and pull it through the coil, then pull each end of the wire tight and tighten the Allen screws up, worx like a charm. Idk if it makes a difference how big each coil is but now I get 6 coils instead of 4 using 3/32 bits. Also now I'm using half the silica as before.
Has anyone ever tried a configuration like this on their pheonix?
I wonder if it would work, and if so how to make the ohmage high enough to make it work.

Thanks so much Brew that picture totally put it into perspective. It seems the method I was using takes roughly 3 times the silica
Last night I packed everything I'd need to wrap a new setup on my lunch. Just an hour and a half and we'll see it in action! I'll let you know how mine turns out. Ok, need to do some reading on the REO forum really quick, then I'll give it a go. I have enough silica with me for two-three tries but so ffar I have always gotten the ERA going first try.========================

Bert, I haven't tried a DC on my phoenix. That said, I have seen this video. Hope it helps:
