i dont understand it..... not long ago i bought patti a new printer.. just a cheapy hp. it comes with ink and the ink that is being sold to replace is the same size but costs more than the printer itself. makes more sense to just go buy a new printer everytime we need ink. does this sound correct?

also whats really weird is the color is empty and the black is still like 90% full but needs both to print.

is it actually empty or does the printer/software just say it's empty? Usually it's just the printer/software thinking it is and it's not.
depending on your model, you can over-ride the ink settings, reset the cartridge, or cover up special points on the cartridge to trick the printer into thinking it's new.

And yes, ink cartridges are ridiculous in price!

Thaks Cyclin, I was afraid my attitude had left me for awhile. But you guys helped me back on track. Power of the Tipster community.

Good morning tripsters! Finally got "settled" in at work, its been busy since the minute I walked in. So after some donuts in the forklift here I am! :D

Quick post for Cyclin, Sedge and Sera.

Cartridges are crazy prices. There are a few things you can do to defray the cost, depending on your model. For example, in my printer all the cartdiges are see-through, with little rubber stoppers at the top. When it runs out you just pop the stopper off and fill it up from a bottle. The whole set of 4 refillables was about $16, and the bottles are $5 each but refill a TON of times. Mine came pre-filled and we still haven't had to refill one yet :)

Yup it happens all the time. First I would try pulling the cartridge and giving it a quick shake, then replacing. If you still see no change then it either really is empty, or is as DeviantDe explained. The chip on your cartridge may have lost "charge" which is usually an easy fix.

Whats your HP's model # Mike? :)

For all the Gennie users this look very promising Pyrex SS hybrid Wick

Hey Bert what's the best way to cut this stuff Pyrex tube

Can I use a Dremel or just score it.

Send it to me, and I will cut it, or just let me know the size and I can make you guys "Buddy Wicks" . This I believe will cut down on sliced thumbs.

LOL....Cyclin...your a mess.....However, you require a fireplace and vodka to do this properly :D

Wharf....I have the glass rod on order :toast:..... we require a scoring tool I believe ... I tried to order one but the Wale guys were out :(....so I may need to visit the big city .... I dislike the big city:closedeyes:

Again, just order it to me and I will do it for you...what do you need a glass rod for? Hopefully you didn't order a rod instead of a tube. I also should let you know that lowes carries a very cheap scoring tool for glass, but please wear leather gloves or better yet just leave the glass cutting to me! I can even polish and anneal the ends to make the whole thing last and eliminate any glass inhalation caused by un-polished edges.

This is standard. It is really best to shop for printers based on the cost of the ink these days. What I do for this problem is this:

1) Download ShopSavvy On Android
2) Go to WalMart in the middle of the night when all the employees who "Don't Care" are working.
3) Scan the ink's barcode with ShopSavvy and pull up the cheapest online price
4) Have the "Not Caring" employee do a price match at the register.

MOST of the time you can get the price of a used cartridge on amazon, usually around $5 ea. The rest of the time the employee will tell you they don't match online prices, and you just walk away and go two blocks down the road to the next WalMart and repeat the process.

I have paid for top of the line phones time and time again by using the ShopSavvy App and having B&M Stores price match online prices.

...............snip....................

OOpps....yes 3mm pyrex tube...... I think we need to learn to cut this stuff ourselves, since we must play around with tube length......I also ordered the Starlite Flexible Diamond Hand Pads to smooth off the edges..... annealing the ends may pose an issue however.....will an oxy-acetylene torch do this? I know I have that stuff in the tool barn....don't know how to use it....but my foreman will :)

The minium order was 25, 4 foot pieces...so Blu and I will have a bunch to practice with .... or we can send you like 10 lengths, 40 feet, if you want to make some standard sizes for the Tripsters???

Let me know :)

I used to have a printer like that where the ink was as much as the printer . . . after going through a couple cartridges I just bought a new printer that used cheaper ink. Sorry, that's not much help

Bert, I have some tubing coming to me (2.5mm and 3mm OD, 0.16mm wall thickness IIRC) and was just gonna do the score and snap method. I guess my question would be is a butane torch like we oxidize our mesh with suitable for flame polishing the cut end of this, or is something else preferable?

Kami- acetylene is too dirty. It will make the glass permanently dirty.

Also, butane won't get hot enough. If your flame won't disintegrate your wicks, not hot enough. I use a tile saw with a diamond wheel and flame polish then anneal. You might be able to do it with a hot head torch with mapp gas.

Scoring and snapping tube isn't like scoring and snapping rod.

You could probably polish the ends with that, but that adds heat stress. I can't stress enough how important this is.
1)Polish to get rid of dust/particles/micro cracks
2)Anneal to re-strengthen glass in a KILN!
There's a tube snapping demo on openlabglass.com that I made my shopmate make after he gouged his thumb out scoring and snapping a tube...which he had been doing for years...just sayin' please be careful, or better yet let me do it for you.

flame polishing, probably, annealing, no! you need a kiln.
