So I invited the guy thats been teaching me to blow glass to come over with his girl and my husband freaked out. We've been working with him for two months and I think theyre both pretty cool people. Very nice, considerate, always punctual, seem like good people. The girl recently went on a trip with the red cross to help people in a disaster area, and the glassblower has been doing auctions and stuff trying to raise money for a friend who lost custody of his daughter. He moved to Oklahoma because he wanted to be near his daughter and it very active in her life. Seems like things good people would do. But my husband is convinced that we dont know them well enough to allow them into our shop and that they might rip us off. I like to think people are generally honest and its not like its just some random person off the street. Don't get me wrong, they wont be unattended in my home or shop. But my husband is stuck on the idea that they could "case us" and come back.

Is he being paranoid? Or am I being naive? Be honest, if you think Im being naive. It wont hurt my feelings. I know sometimes I can be too trusting...

Either way it is a good practice to put distinct markings on all of your tools with an engraver and have photos of them stored on USB disk somewhere. That way if/when one walks off at least you can identify it if/when you think it has resurfaced on someone else's bench. Cameras in or around your studio with a dvr are not a bad investment either.

Amber - If you have a reasonably good track record of reading people, go with your gut. If not, go with hubby. MHO

Ive never been stolen from by anyone other than a random car robbery, I stay away from shady people. I feel like these folks have been really open with me about everything, and after one lesson I tried give the guy an extra $20 as a thanks and he insisted that I take it back. Surely someone who is out to rip me off wouldnt hand money back to me that I told them they could have right?

I think I will go through and mark everything. Do GTT's have serial numbers on them somewhere? I couldnt find one on mine. I need to take photos for my insurance anyway. Wonder what it would cost to set up a camera system like that? I would need it to record two places because my shop is split between the garage and the spare bedroom. I think I will at least get some of those noise alarms to put on the windows and maybe back door. No one could be stupid enough to break in through the front with how visible my house is to the neighborhood.

Well still no Provari. According to the website, there was a notice given to me yesterday. I, however, didn't get one. Today's mailman (who's apparently different than yesterday's mailman) didn't have it, and suggested that it should be at the post office. So off I go to the post office and it's not there. They assure me there should be a second attempt at delivery tomorrow. I sure hope so. :(

Amber I was gonna say check harbor freight LOL That's where my camera is from and it's been running great, outside, for years without a problem. I don't have mine on a dvr though, just a monitor. That set up is way cooler than mine lol

As for the people and letting them into your home, your personal experience and gut feeling about them is what to follow. Hubby is a little paranoid. It's ok to be a little paranoid, but you can't live a life with other people in it if you can't extend a little trust once in a while. Take the precautions of marking tools, securing the shop, and putting up cameras just in case anything happens, be it with these people or some random break in, and enjoy having people over.
