I am embarrassed to admit that I own at least 2 of them. One I didn't even realize was a YouTube reviewer, which makes me look seriously bad.
  1. Desire Rage Squonk mod (OhmBoy) - I have no idea who OhmBoy is, but I assume he is as much a shill as the other YouTube reviewers. Honestly, it was a pretty good device, still works but I replaced it with a Topside, which IMO is superior. Was pretty expensive, but still good. When I bought it I had no idea OhmBoy was a person, my bad.
  2. Wotofo Recurve rda (MikeVapes) - I actually heard of MikeVapes and knew this was a name slap, but the RDA was really cheap, like around $20. I used it for a pretty long time, it was OK, still works, definitely worth the money.
There are some things I am realizing, one is that I have a lot of vape gear, most of it old but still working and that I probably should organize in case one day I need it. Second thing is maybe I am being too hard on YouTube name slappers. The two that I have are pretty good and are quality products. It just irritates me so that I am supporting shills. I have been avoiding the Vandy Vape Pulse because I think that is also Mike Vapes, maybe I should just go ahead and get it. A real dilemma.

For those that still wish to spend money on vaping it can be a issue deciding on what to purchase.

Do you get more of the same that you already have/like? (assuming it is available) Or do you take chances on different stuff?

If you are opting for taking chances - do you watch mostly useless youtube videos that claim to be 'reviewing' the stuff or search the internet for actual users? (then filter the fanboi's and whiner comments?)

Decisions, decisions... sorry I'm not much help.

    ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
The nature of reviews is shilling. most all reviewers are shills be it vape or otherwise. It's a business, it always was. Very few have a budget to buy everything themselves and make honest reviews...and get a large viewership on top of that, enough to get enough donations to make it worth the waste of time that it is. Video and even blog reviews take a ton of time to make, but especially video reviews. So even if they had the money to buy everything that the shills get for free, the time they waste doing it makes them give up eventually, then all you're left with is the shills, again - it happens over and over. Honesty is expensive and there's no benefit associated with it in the world of reviews.

I use reviews to get close looks at what I might be interested in when pics found aren't enough (usually aren't). Some shills provide that, but I put very little weight on their opinions nor do I have the patience for some of their incessant blabbering. I used to like Rip Trippers reviews, not because I like Rip or thought he was honest, but because he was very fast at showing the product up close and all I had to do was mute him and watch the parts that were relevant to me.

Many reviewers do design and have an influence in their product development, not just a "name slap".
The Topside was designed by Brian TVC, not Ohmboy.
The Vandy Vape Pulse was designed/influenced by Tony B, another reviewer.
Sometimes China needs guidance from actual reviewers/users.
I base my purchases on what fits my needs, not who has their name on it.

I watch no YouTube videos anymore, like literally zero. I tend to get new things unless of course it looks like it will be an improvement on something I already have. I don't have a billet box device at all, which is why the Vandy Vape Pulse AIO looks interesting. I really don't know anything about boxes except I saw some reviews and mentions on ECF and I have read the reviews on VaporDNA and Element Vape. I really do have too much vape gear, it seems to fall into the following categories 1) travel gear which is now a Caliburn G2, used to be a Drag X which started leaking after 3 months (bad purchase) & an Aspire Nautilus Mini which I sometimes still use, 2 ) an RDA which is a Wotofo Profile on a Topside mod mostly, but multiple devices and 3) a RTA, which is a Vapefly Brumhilde mostly on top of a Fuchai mod. Pretty boring actually. OK, now I am depressed  . Thanks for your help.

Well, that is an interesting approach, I need to try that. I will see if RIP has a video on the VV Pulse and give it a shot. Ya, listening to them is the worst part, all the ones I have seen have been hard to listen to for longer than 2 minutes. I suppose I should watch OhmBoy to see if I need to find out a way to remove his name from the Rage. Thanks for your help.

I generally don't watch YouTube reviews unless I have a question about a particular device. I find that the reviewers are just too loud and chatty, and some have a tendency towards profanity that is totally unnecessary. Their opinions of a given device don't mean a lot, because you are only getting the initial impression, not the results of weeks or months of use. The forums are a better place for good reviews.

Exactly, it is an unboxing more than a review. The Drag X is a perfect example for me, worked good for a couple of months and then straight into the garbage. It is pretty obvious to me they get paid for the review so you have to take everything they say with a grain of salt. Uncle Zunkle was right that you need to watch them muted. Plus most of them are just kind of creepy.

Too many. I watch reviews for the entertainment value, but I think I've purchased two things based on reviews, both Phil Busardo, and the last one was in 2012.

I honestly don't know or have ever watched most of these YT reviewers. I know about 4, all of which I dislike. I seriously don't know who OhmBoy or Mr Just Right (??) are. How many are there? I know Mike Vapes is now doing reviews on other stuff probably because vaping is starting to stagnate, can't make his money here anymore. Why do these companies think slapping their name on everything is going to sell anything?

What will we see next, 1 lb bag of carrots brought to you by Carrot Top, Mayfield Milk in collaboration with Sydney Sweeney, Charmin Toilet Paper sponsored by Lyndsey Graham, Mint Mobile brought to you by Ryan Reynolds, and ... wait ... it is too late I guess. We are doomed  .

I don't think I recognize ANY of those names.

I still (sometimes) watch Mark Todd, GrimmGreen, etc.. The ones who have been around for a minute.
