The automatic is triggered by the sucking action (and wind without a carto) and the manual by pressing a button. It is again, personal preference, I have both manual and an automatic and while the auto is nice when in a social situation, it is much easier to kill because juice can leak in. I've found the automatic more like an analog because to get a good vape it is more little puffs and then a long drag, with the manual's it is a long drag with more vapor. Autos also have a cut off time. The manuals are a safer bet because you control the vaping. I like the manuals better, more vaper in my experience.

P.S. Don't be afraid of asking questions, it is best to ask before you invest and we all love talking about vaping here.

P.S.S. It wasn't at all a stupid question how is anyone new to vaping supposed to know.

Keep in mind that the responders to your questions will each recommend the brands they're currently using and the web sites they've dealt with. It would be a good idea to read the tutorials listed above the New Members Forum messages. And try to read some of the new members' threads where other new users have asked the same questions. You'll gain a lot more knowledge that way than just resorting to buying whatever responders to this thread advise.

There's a learning curve with getting into vaping. Most new users start out with the cheap starter kits that are much more expensive than what they end up replacing them with when they upgrade the cheap kits to parts that work much better. You'll need to experiment with liquids, though. There are many sites that sell liquids/juice, but one of the favorites with many of the old-timers here is freedomsmokeusa.com. I've bought from four suppliers and like FSUSA the best, but you might like another supplier better.

Congrats on your decision and good luck to you!

I bought my first PV at modern vapor. Awesome stuff. I bought the LUX and a couple of 902 batteries. The lux battery is a bit large if you want to keep it small like a real cig, but it will last for a couple days so perfect for travel. The 902 batteries, which are compatible are much smaller and last a few hours. The taste is great, amount of vapor is perfect.

The juice makes all the difference. I thought I'd want to have mine taste just like my cigs did, and I was very surprised that the first one I tried (backwoods brew -espresso) was so yummy, it is what I turn to constantly.

Here is a coupon code for first time buyers..."first15" (obviously, 15% off)

Manual = push button to start vapor, what most of us use and gives the best control over usage of the ecig. Auto = inhale to start vapor. The button is in with the battery and is turned on with your breath, but has several problems. One, they can be turned on by loud music or wind. Also the battery has a hole in the center post that juice can get in and maybe kill the battery.

Ok people I need some help. I really want to change over to e-cigarettes, but as usual I'm clueless about them. I smoke Camel menthol silvers and I want a mild menthol taste still with nicotine there. I need something that works and that is not that much hassle. I travel a lot and not being able to smoke in airports now gets quite annoying. So please help!!!

You and I smoked the same brand. I started with the KR808 and it is what got me off analogs, and my batteries last 4-6 hours. I can tell you that menthol has ended up being my least favorite vape. In a menthol FreedomSmokesUSA has one that is decent, I think it is Menthol Artic. I got it in a 12 mg nic (not high enough for a strong craving) and 70/30 vg/pg ratio. I'm finding I like many other flavors and some more traditional tobaccos. Wyatt Earp from FSUSA, 555 from VapeMasters and Executive Cigar from Vapoligy are my mainstays.
