Deprotonation is the removal (transfer) of a proton (a hydrogen cation, H+) from a Brønsted-Lowry acid in an acid-base reaction. The species formed is the conjugate base of that acid. The complementary process, when a proton is added (transferred) to a Brønsted-Lowry base, is protonation.
can ya say that once more, but in English this time please!! hehehe j/k if I don't need to know what it is, I'd rather not use the last remaining brain cells I have on it lol

yeah, I'd looked it up, but your link did say that somehow it makes the nic easier to absorb and more potent right? So that's a good thing. And RTS does it, so that's a good thing. Long as I'm right on that, I'm good to go lol

Yes, you are good to go.
Save your remaining cells for more practical application Deb. :D

thanks darlin! Pathetic I know. I used to be 1/2 way intelligent. But an injury a number of years ago now causes my brain to just fritz out on a lotta things.

I'm not really an idiot, I just play one on ECF  that's my story and I'm stickin to it!

So the condensed version is: free base nicotine simply means that it has been deprotonated (a hydrogen atom removed, making it negatively charged). All drugs have ions which allow them to be better absorbed and this is the same for nicotine.:)

Sorry to hear that Deb, a talented musician friend lost his sense of rhythm and timing from an injury. :(
You are good at many things playing an idiot.. you need more work on that. :p

Alright guys and gals, Version 1.1 of the calculator is now live for y'all to try out. Please let me know if you think of anything else you would like to see or any other feedback.

Nicotine Use Calculator

Thanks! :)
so far I can't manipulate the fields but I really appreciate you adding the extra calculations.

They are probably saying that because ascorbic acid oxidizes very easily and my educated guess is that it would oxidize first over the nicotine. However, with that said, I would not add it to my nicotine because it can breakdown into diketones.
Hi, VC. Can you please say a little more about this? It is my understanding that diketogulonic acid is a metabolite of ascorbic acid and the oxidized form of the lactone dehydroascorbic acid. Formation of 2,3-diketogulonic acid can only occur if there's an excessive accumulation of AFR; the diketogulonic acid is then converted to oxalic acid and is excreted.

I'm not trying to be a smart aleck, VC. Or a PITA. I promise. :) It's only that the word "diketone" is anathema and I feel as though your comment may have been or may be taken in a way that you didn't intend. Also, this stuff is very, very complicated!

Thanks so much!

BTW, I am an RTS customer :)

Thanks for being a loyal RTS customer Little Bird!

So ascorbic acid (or Vitamin C) degredation is not exactly my specialty, but I will clarify to the best of my ability. Vitamin C has a multitude of degredation (or metabolic) pathways, some are oxidative and others are non-oxidative, some are protein dependent and others are not. One important thing is that only a certain percentage will take pathway A, B, and so on. This all of course is assuming that the body would absorb the Vitamin C, and also that upon vaporization that the Vitamin C would even remain Vitamin C.

All of that (and plenty more could be said), I'm not saying that adding the Vitamin C would be a "bad" thing, but I would not be adding it to my nicotine. :)

Hope that helps clear things up a little bit.

As many of us are storing litres of 100mg/ml of nic in pg/vg or both.
I'd really like a chart or calculator that can be used to workout how much we need to buy.
If I vape 10ml per day of 10mg/ml of unflavored juice, how long would a litre of 100mg last?
And will work out any combination of mg/ml nic.
Is anything available besides my windows calculator?
440BB has it. Just remember that a 1 liter bottle of 100mg nic has 100,000 mg of nic. BTW that's the same amount of nic as in the smoke from 5,000 packs of cigarettes. More numbers. I was paying $6 a pack so each mg of nic was costing me 30 cents. If I was vaping the same mg of nic as I did with cigarettes the one liter bottle would last about 10 years and replace $30,000 worth of cigarettes. If I lived in New York where cigs cost twice as much the bottle would replace $60,000 worth. Some people in China are calling ecigarettes their 5th great invention after navigation, gun power, paper, and printing. I'm inclined to agree.
