It's just scary sometimes living out here all by myself.
It's scary sometimes living around people, too. I remember the first time I took my son for a walk outside our home (he was ~12 mo-old), and we ended up in in the line of fire of a drive-by shooting.

That's an air conditioner. I haven't used my air conditioners in about 20 years, since I like being warm, and now I've added a Legionaire Disease phobia to my avoidence of using them.
Last I was using my bedroom A/C, I had a recurring sparrow nest between it and the window frame. First time I discovered it when there were already babies, so I had to wait 'til they were grown and gone. Next couple times I got rid of the nest before any eggs.

But I really do like living in the middle of nowhere out here. And you can always put more layers of clothes on when it's cold, but there are limits on how much you can take off when it's hot.Around here in the sticks where I live people just shoot family members and estranged spouses/dating partners.
In the big city now they shoot strangers.
