Ahhhh yes, the perk of having a job that makes it easy to multitask (aka get distracted) and doesn't involve meetings or dealing with people (other than my attempts to ignore the fact that i"m stuck in a small room full of cubicles) O.O
All my job is is multitasking..so many things at once it's all good. Definitely works with my attention deficit, keeps my attention span cause it's all a bunch of smaller things that need to be done.

In other news. The g/f decided she's had enough of my .... and gave me the final ultimatum. Either I go to the dr. appointment she made for me (on THURSDAY! AGH) and ask for anti-anxieties and anti-depressants, or we need to "re-evaluate" our relationship. O.O

any advice for overcoming my anxiety enough to ask about anti-anxieties? That's like the world's worst joke.

Peopel have sometimes tried to tell me I have Asperger's, but I know I don't. That's not from their observing me, but from things I tell them about myself. I have a lot in common with high-functioning autistic people including a lot of the characteristics, habits and personality traits people've been discussing on this thread. I find some usefullness in reading strategies for autistic adults. Some have helped me.

Yeah I suppose us non-NT's have some things in common even though we may not have the same labels hung upon us.

    Most.
I hit 44 on the test.
I like to think I'm smart, my memory sucks.
But, I lived a little too good for too long.
    Wink, nudge, something something.
You mean you drank too much or smoked too much of the good good or what? Lol

Anti-anxieties (usually benzo's) are the most addicting (physically) kind of Rx. They play off of the GABA and Dopamine receptors in your brain. They (& alcohol) Are the only two substances you can't stop cold turkey, you risk seizures & death depending on your body's level of dependency.
Anti-depressants (SSRI's, SDNRI's) work by increasing/controlling the intake of either serotonin (SSRI's) or dopamine & norepinephrine receptors (SDNRI's).
Anti-anxieties could be useful in small doses only in times of high stress & tension above your normal. Like low dose Valium, or low dose Xanax for panic attacks (if you have them)
My advice for overcoming the anxiety about asking for them is by being honest. If your doc thinks you truly need them, being honest about the situation and what's goin on in your head will get them, hopefully on a low dose & "in case of emergency" type situations. But always get a second opinion.
And tell your gf that you can't control the synapses in your brain...hopefully she understands lol

    thanks Tom.

I was on Ativan in high school and college to treat panic attacks, but I guess I'd be looking for something more "every day maintenance" and less "emergencies only". . . do SSRIs or SDNRI's work for anxiety too, or are they a depression only thing?

Basically, is there an option to take one thing everyday that is going to help both issues? Or am I stuck with this drug for depresssion, this drug for panic attacks, this drug for high-stress-but-not-quite-panic.
    O.O

I say, take all the narcotics you can possibly get your hands on :w00t:
Yeah I don't like most ANY type of pharmaceutical drug ... If it isn't herbal or non synthesized then I really don't care for them. Luckily for myself, I am on a very small dose of Xanax and I do not take it all of the time. But yes, the Benzo's are very addicting. A person just has to be very careful with stuff like that.

Oh, and the g/f understands, but she's also a therapist. . . so she knows that the aspergers is one thing and is very helpful/tolerant/awesome with that but she also knows that the meds can help with some of my "bigger" issues. hahahaha

Aka, she's totally down with my inability to function in social situations and make small talk, but would at least like me to be willing to go out occasionally.

I say get rid of the gf/relationship :w00t: (kidding).... Therapist or not, you need to use your obvious smarts and common sense to decide the proper course of action for yourself.

Maybe if you felt less anxious, you might...feel better?

I am fighting the same battle of knowing I need to go to the doctor about my issues and the fear of actually going to a shrink....

If something makes life worth living and actually makes one function better in their job or private life is addiction really a problem?

Good Morning Lord Cromwell ... That would depend upon your outlook. If you are worried about if the chemical is bad for you, then yes, addiction would matter --- On the other hand, if you could care less about your health and just want to slide through life, then it probably wouldn't matter as much. But you also have to factor other people into the equations as well. Are there other folks who your possible addiction would bother?

What do you think you're afraid of?
Everything? Nothing? Rejection? but most likely fear of opening up I suppose.
I am tired of being afraid but afraid to do anything about it?
    I dunno I am not a psychocatrist.
But I do have 3 cats.
