I suppose I need to get an appointment with a head shrinker.

Yes, you could do that, or better yet get to an autism specialist. But you may have to be referred a by the shrink..... Just tell the shrink what you have learned and ask to be recommended to see a specialist.
A shrink can definitely diagnose you because they are a physician and head doctor all rolled into one. But I don't know if the shrink will do that. Some do and some don't. If they don't want to mess with it then ask for a referral to a doc that specialized in autism disorders.
Really strange, my whole concempt of autism has been turned upside down. I knew it was not just downs syndrome but.....

If an adult scores really high on that test, and from reading info and discussing online they are convinced they have Asperger's, I see nothing wrong with not seeking proffessional advice, if it's not felt to be needed or desired. It could be all the help they need, just to learn they have it.
Ohh for me help is needed, believe me. there are days I wonder if I am going to just fly apart. I am becoming someone I do not like.
lol .... yeah most Asperger people are totally in awe about discovering what they are..... I know I sure was and was in denial for a couple of years........ But if you really think about your past then you will start to see how it all fits together.....It will explain away the social awkwardness, your ability to see the big picture, and a whole host of other things.
I hear you. Hadn't read all your messages yet, and wasn't directing it at you specifically.
I can only speak as a parent coming to grips with the diagnosis of her child. For me, the positive that came out of that label was that it was the key to not just understanding "why" behind some of the challenges I saw my son struggling with, but more importantly, an array of strategies to support him in eventually finding his way through or around those challenges.
It will also explain why you have not many interests that other folks do. Your mind operates different from a normal person and hence it is logical that your interests will be different as well. Your mind is far superior to most average folks in many ways. On the flip side of the coin, it must not be forgotten that we can also be very stupid in those areas where our minds are damaged...Things like social interactions and such........... But the intelligence of the Asperger person easily makes up for our damaged (stupid) portions.
I figured out that my mind had "holes" in it that most people did not have.
That's just a matter of semantics..... The point is that those areas do not work as well as a normal person.
Feel free to call them the NTs -- neurotypicals. I think you are normal, you're just not typical.
Normal to me means average. I do not want to be average. Just stable they way I am.
