Whose been on Seroquel or Zyprexa

I took Seroquel for sleep once upon a time. It kind of put me into a coma. Massive hangover the next day.

I would say Abilify is a little better than Zyprexa. The psychiatrists I worked with preferred it and I've taken Abilify for anxiety before. Very little side effects.

I suspect the Seroquel may have damaged my pancreas. Since reading that it has done so to a few people who have taken it.
Well after taking them and many other similar drugs I would feel like lying down even if the bed was on fire.

Taken Zyprexa in the past , have a script for it but not feeling it.
Could get some Abilify, sure Doc would know about that or if I've had it before.

Okay, I've had time to think about it, and I'm still freaking out about this dr. appointment. I know being honest is my best option but here are my concerns:
1) It's an appointment with my PCP not a shrink (can't afford the mental health copays on my insurance plan)
2) I was previously diagnosed asperger, GAD, and depression.
3) I'm afraid I'm going to have a panic attack while trying to discuss my anxiety issues. I don't think this will be effective. ;)
4) I'm afraid she'll refuse to give me meds since she is a PCP.
5) I'm afraid she'll think I'm a pill seeker because I'm asking for meds.
6) I'm about to cancel this damn appointment even though I want the help. >.<
7) I've been on meds before, but ONLY ativan and that was ONLY for when I knew I was about to have a panic attack (this was given to me by an emergency room doctor and thankfully I stopped having panic attacks before I had to get a refill) I have no idea what I would need or want. . . but I think this is the dr's job?

So, I need to walk in, head held high, attempt to make eye contact and ask for help. I have no idea how to manage that. I might be over thinking this. It might be making things worse. But if I try to go in with NO plan then I might dissolve into a panicked mess.

1) Not a problem with PCPs. Most primary care physicians LIKE to take care of all of the patient's health concerns, including mental health.

2) Not uncommon diagnoses for a PCP to manage.

4) A good doctor will take care of these issues for you and only refer you to a psychiatrist if they feel out of their depth. She should be comfortable writing for these types of meds and/or consulting with a psychiatrist (but not referring you to one) if she has questions. ESPECIALLY if you tell her that your mental health copays are not affordable.

5) Not the type of pill seeker that docs are worried about. In the health world we only worry about those asking for narcotics consistently or those who are making up obviously fake maladies to score some narcs.

7) Yes, the doc will have a starting base of medications in mind for you. The BEST way to get what you need from your provider is to go in and be honest. Say what did or did not work for you and why. Tell her your honest opinions on medications. Doctors know more about medications than (most) consumers do and have access to things that the general public does not, so try not to prescribe yourself. Doctors can get their hands on the newest research and recommendations, whereas those things aren't readily available to the masses. Unless you have personal experience or you see that a certain drug causes issues en masse be open minded about your doctor's suggestions.

I have been puzzled by this thread for a while. Specifically all the talk about needing medication and having anxiety issues. To me this does not make any sense.

I was just speaking to a friend who happens to be a developmental psychologist and found the answer.

It seems that they changed the definition of what an Aspie is to such a large extent that a Hans Asperger Aspie is no longer considered a disability. She said now the term refers to a broad group of anxiety disorders and autistic person's.

Now I understand why y'all seem so different from the few old Aspies I know.

For those of you who have anxiety disorders you have my sympathy I don't really know what it is to feel anxious or lonely.

yeah you're right, we are probably all just victims of some unknown anxiety disorder. The definition of Asperger's has broadened so much that nobody is an aspie but the old timers. New folks don't get Asperger's. You can't have Asperger's and have anxiety at the same time as it's impossible. All the Doctors are mistaking anxiety disorders for Asperger's.

It seems that it is a valuable title.

My friend joked that there was no money to be made off a couple of traditional Aspies because we don't need medication and we don't care what others think about us.

Apparently once parents started reading about us like we were some kind of autistic savants they wanted that title vs. autistic for their kids.

I haven't been diagnosed with Asperger's. I'm ADD and clinically depressed(not depressed with my meds). I joined in the conversation because somehow I feel a connection with everyone here. Real good folks. And fellow vapers. Non-judgmental. Love it!

My first thought would be that you're fortunate for that, but maybe not so. It can be very enjoyable for me to listen to a song about feeling anxious and/or lonely, but if I couldn't at all relate, maybe it would just seem wierd.

My brother got diagnosed in 1996 after being observed in a hospital for several weeks.
When did you or a relative get diagnosed ?
Yes I didn't read about anyone on the internet for years having it , well no one that mentioned it.

Not sure if I have "it" or not yet, but indications are that I do. Head shrinker will have to make the call.
However I do not think many who have "it" will go around broadcasting that they do.
I have told many things in this thread that I have NEVER told before.
Prolly will wind up biting me in the ...., but not sure I really give much of a .... as I get older and tireder.

My brother would not mention it online.
I don't much care about opinions so mention anything.
