So I'm still new to all this, and I have never replaced a coil, because this is my first tank. I have used this coil very heavily for an entire month today. Gone through 35+ ml of eliquid. But reading on here, you all act like coils lasting 1 week is amazing. The coil is reading at 2.0 ohms. I'm still getting great vapor production, and the taste is still good. Am I just not picky? Or has other people experienced a similar longevity with these coils?

Ok thanks! I just don't know if I should go ahead and change it or what. I thought it was normal until I came on here and read that a couple of weeks was considered a long time.

I mean, I can't tell if the flavor is getting less intense or if I'm just getting use to this flavor. I thought about replacing the coil, but I don't want to waste it. Still trying to figure all this stuff out.

It doesn't really matter "how long it lasts" it matters how much juice you vape through each coil. So you used one coil for a month and only used 35ml. I go through 30ml a week or so. so after about 60 I need to change the coil. Which is only 2-3 weeks. You usage is low so your coils last longer then a heavy vaper.

Oh wow, I thought I vaped a lot! But this is pretty much what I was wondering. I didn't know how much juice on average a coil can go through before it needs to be replaced. Thank you!

You may not have as good of a palette as some of us I can feel the flavor drop off after 1 fill on a 5ml tank and after a day or two it's even more noticeable

I can often get 90 to 150ml of juice through the BDC coil and the BVC coil is looking to be no different in that regard, it's well on it's way past 60ml of Doc Bailey's Elixir "Lemon Bar" and not showing any signs of less vapor and more importantly, any less flavor.

My wife went about at least 120ml on one coil in her Protank 2, then she came to me and said that it isn't as "flavorific" as it was when she first started to use the PT2, so I popped a new coil in it and she was absolutely delighted and said it was now just as flavorific as it was when she first started to use the PT2. But I have no idea if the last 10ml or the last 60ml was less flavorful to her. But on the PT2 I used to easily go through 60ml + before I really "felt" the need to swap the head.

I am often astonished at people that say that they had to replace their coil after 1 to 3 days (about 5 to 15ml) as that seems so little liquid to vape through them, so I just figure those folks have a higher sense of flavor than my wife and I do and maybe they really can taste a flavor drop after such a short time.

I've yet to actually have any coil burn out on me to where it won't work anymore, usually if I do change them it's purely because I have an extra laying around and just want to see if there was any flavor drop on the current coil, then I soak them for 8 to 72 hours in vodka, give them a rinse and put them back into rotation of used coils in case I need them when money is short and coils are needed.

The only coil that I've had any major issues with is the eLeaf iJust tanks coil, it tastes exactly like my RSST when I have a hot spot on the coil, so I figure that it's got an issue after less than 2ml of liquid was run through it. If the next coil acts the same on it, then I'm likely to either put it up on ebay or just banish it to the vaping box for all eternity.

All depends on the juice...heavier flavors will load up the coil faster.

I run one with straight homebrewed menthol which is 50/50 PG/VG @15mg with 5% menthol crystal solution and there has been -0- change in about a week as far as flavor or vapor production.

I vape clear juices with light shades of yellow or amber. There was a period starting back in the Spring where Kanger and Aspire coils were dying in 1 to 3 days. The failure mode was poor flavor and vapor followed by resistance rising until finally the coil would pop and read open. I spent lots of money on heads, getting 2 or 3 days tops from a head. Finally, I got frustrated and bought a Kayfun. I wind my own coils and can easily get a month or more out of a head. I replace my cotton wick about twice a week while I'm doing a tank refill.

The new BVC heads seem to be the cure for that problem. If you were lucky you were able to get BDC heads from Aspire and Kanger that were outside the bad batches. Neither company admitted the problem, although Kanger issued a statement to dealers who bought directly from Kanger that they would replace heads purchased within a given period.

I've found that the BVC coils don't really "die" per se, and I'm a heavy vaper; who vapes at least 60-70ml a week. I only swap them when the flavor gets weak, or funky, or when the draw gets too tight. That said; I toss them about every 10-14 days, or when I use a strong flavor that I don't like, and won't leave the head after a dozen pulls of new liquid.

Does soaking the coil heads in vodka helps clean it out?

Does soaking the coil heads in vodka helps clean it out?

To tell you the absolute truth... Only sometimes. So far it's not worked on any of the Protank 2 coils that we've soaked. And it's only really cleaned one of the Aspire Nautilus BDC coils where I could physically see a difference. The one Aspire coil that came out clean looked brand new inside, the wick was almost as white as the day it was bought and the coil was shiny gray metal looking. However, the other 3 BDC coils that were soaked in the same vodka with it, for the same length of time didn't show any signs of having been "cleaned". It doesn't rejuvenate them to be like a new coil as far as I'm concerned, but the vodka bath and then the rinse in hot water afterwards does seem to remove all previous e-liquid flavor from the coil which to some people is important.

But it's really no different than pulling about 10 to 12 hits on a used coil as far as flavor removal goes since most coils that I've reused with only a water rinse and dry will change over to the new flavor in usually no more than 10 or 12 hits on it.

I'd say if you've got some cheap vodka laying around you may as well give it a go and see if it works good enough for you but I wouldn't bother to go out and buy some vodka to try it out. We just happen to have cases and cases of vodka laying around from when our friends closed down their restaurant / resort and I was staying at the resort after it closed to make sure nobody trespassed on the property so as well as paying me to stay there they told me to take whatever alcohol we might want from the alcohol closet in the old kitchen, so we took all the cases of bourbon, gin and vodka even though I don't drink alcohol anymore and my wife will only drink silver patron tequila of which they had none. Anyway, if you have some vodka laying around, give it a go, otherwise I wouldn't go out and buy any to try it as I really don't feel it does enough to bother spending money on a bottle of vodka. But like I say, I go through the motions and do it anyway since we have the bottles, but the majority of coils end up getting tossed in the trash eventually anyway since the cleaning didn't rejuvenate them any, only removed the previous eliquid flavor.

Wth the coils never last me over 2 days and I vape under 4ml in total. I don't chain vape either , after 2 days it starts to taste different and th is bad. I took apart one and the coil is black

Yes they gunk up pretty good at times, this is of a BDC coil from Aspire.

While they can be cleaned, I've found they never really regain full flavor for me.
I'm no longer trying to clean them. Now I just put it into a baggie and label it with the date and juice that was used with it, then reuse it when I use the same juice again. If a coil is questionable I don't even bother saving it anymore even though i like to save money as much if not more than the next guy, cleaned coils to me just aren't as flavorful as a brand new coil IMO.
