I think that one of the only ways we can find out if ceramic paper and all the other wicking materials are viable and safe options is to wait for Farsalinos to do wicking research... Which he will most certainly want to do along with a metal research (i.e. kanthal vs nichrome vs nickle vs etc...).

He's all set up to study metals--has been for a while, but the funds are short. He's planning to do it after he completes the high temperature study.

Hey look! No ceramic or fiberglass! :) These coils are SO easy to rebuild like this!! If you have ever rebuilt Protank or Evod heads you will love doing these. And even if you haven't consider yourself lucky if this is your first replacement head rebuild! I say the hell with the vertical coil as this simple horizontal build gives outstanding flavor and vapor and at 1.1 ohms Eleaf iStick owners can use this build too. I run it at 20 watts.

6 wraps with 28g kanthal wire around a 5/64" or 2mm drill bit - its just wicks and vapes great with cotton and its my go to tank from here on out! Sorry Fogger, Orchid, Lemo and Billow! Well maybe not Billow if I really want a dual coil dripper like tank but I have drippers for that!

If you have questions there is another thread about rebuilding these Atlantis heads right here -->http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/forum/coil-builds/635637-anyone-rebuilt-aspire-atlantis-coil.html

:)

Nice coil!

Very similar to Kanger's OCC coil, BTW:

Hi guys. I'm in need for new coils for my Nautilus mini and this thread has me wondering what to order.
So is this the popular opinion that there are no mysteries with BDCs and they are the healthier option?

Not many mysteries, they use standard cartomizer-type fillers. BDCs do not perform as well as BVCs, but you can certainly give them a try. If you're concerned, you can rebuild your BVCs with Japanese organic cotton--there are many great tutorials on YouTube, for both vertical and horizontal rebuilds. If you don't want or can't rebuild, try to minimize the (potential) harm by vaping at lower wattages and mouth-
to-lung inhaling--or skipping the lugn inhale altogether, if possible. Just vape like you would smoke a pipe or a cigar. You'll still get your nic, don't worry.

Another thing you could do is write to Aspire and express your concerns. I've had some success exchanging emails with their service department at service@aspirecig.com. The guy who wrote back to me was very nice and clearly understood what I was talking about and took my comments seriously. Their CEO never got back me, and the people on their forum are either not qualified or not allowed to really address any issues in-depth. They do indeed copy and paste their answers. They are on FB also.

Good luck!

Great build- You no longer need the ceramic frag screen to catch the pieces though:ohmy:

That looks like its been scorched and dry burned over and over.

This is what mine looked like after about 30ml of juice. 70-80vg at 25watts.

Not one dry burn. I never dry burn stock coils- I throw them out. That was from less than 10mls of Wakonda at well under 15 watts.

The outer, outer sheath, that covers the holes to the coil head seems to be in perfect condition so I will leave that in on my rebuilds. Does anyone know what this material is made of? Is it cotton or the unknown material? It is not near the coil so it's integrity is not compromised.

I don't have any BVC coils, but I did take an old BDC apart (I take everything apart ) and it really looks like a standard cartomizer inside. That piece of (flame-resistant?) material that is closest to the the coil body never comes in contact with the coil and it doesn't bother me. It's also a solid piece--it doesn't crumble or otherwise disintegrate like that fiberglass/ceramic/whatever. I wouldn't worry about it. Some rebuilders just rinse and leave it in place, other replace if with a thin sheet of cotton.

As has been pointed out, the unknown material is completely breaking down as evidenced by the holes in the small squares shown in these pics and other pics. Does anyone have pics of a regular Aspire BVC coil from the Nautilus? Is this same material in that head as well?

Per the OP of this thread, it is the same "ceramic paper" used in all BVC coils--they even invoke the lab test.

Our patented ceramic paper has been tested by SGS, and shows there are no harmful chemicals or of off-gasses according the international standards currently in place.

The ceramic paper that has been in question here is fully incased in organic cotton, and has a screen to keep the wicking material in its place.

I have done this and it is a Noah's Flood machine. Those wide open juice holes are Noah's flood. I put wick or leave the sheathing in to prevent the flood.

Most people rebuild with a vertical coil...

I'm not sure how this horizontal build pictured above could work and not leak... But what do I know. :D

If you go back a few pages you can see we've done that. I am keeping everyone here in the loop as they reply to me. Hopefully will get something useful rather than "Dees goed cowils, you buy NOW!"

Then that juice is just garbage. I rotate between 4 brands of juice and 9 different flavors, and thats how all my coils look.

Ide like to see what that juice does to an RDA build.

I've tried 26ga,7 wraps w/ 28ga and even did a parallel build on a larger coil after drilling the holes and used higher wattage and nothing really performs that much better so this is my sweet spot for flavor and vapor and might as well save a little battery! :)

Well, it may well be that this just doesn't get that much better and vertical coils rule. Then again, how does it compare to the original Atlantis at 30 watts?

Wakonda is a tobacco vape with vanilla extracts made by Nicoticket. If "premium" joose exists, Clark at Nicoticket makes it. Regardless, the ceramic sheathing disintegrated under lower power over a short period of time. That was the point of the post. It will be interesting to see if and how Aspire will respond to Firecrow's letter.

Hello Ryedan! Talk to me about vertical coils, please. Do you do vertical builds? I have never tried a vertical coil, well, not since my KR808 carto days, anyway, but so many people like them. I also wonder why Kanger isn't making a vertical coil; after all, they invented it. :p

Katya, a vertical coil is just like a horizontal coil but the wick is wrapped around the coil and does not pass through it so the air passage moves from the bottom of the coil through the top of the coil. By wrapping the coil with wick, much wick in the case of an Atlantis coil rebuild, it can prevent the head from flooding and leaking. It is also a really good vape.

So 4 of my coils used at 25watts are clean as a whistle, yet at 15watts your coil gets disintegrated??

Say what?!

Yeah, I get that, I'm just wondering if the fact that the air travels through the vertical coil like through a tunnel makes a difference in vape quality. Also, if it allows people to vape at higher wattages because, perhaps, the air travelling in that manner cools the coil more efficiently.

Horizontal builds are much easier, of course, both to build and to rewick; I just wonder if there's some additional air magic going on. :D
