I haven't seen any evidence that they switched to cotton--no official statements, no user confirmation. Just speculations so far.

I am hoping to see some kind of official statement soon, otherwise mine will remain out of circulation. I can and have pulled the head apart and rebuilt with KGD, however it's a PITA and completely antithetical to the reason I bought the Atlantis in the first place! I wanted a plug and play for the times I don't feel like rebuilding. Until I see a guarantee that there are heads wicked entirely with cotton it will remain relegated to the shelf. :(

If you already own Atlantis (I don't), I suggest you buy Eleaf Melo coils--they are supposed to fit Atlantis tanks. And they are cotton.

Or wait. I'm sure that Aspire is eventually going to switch to cotton--after they have sold the existing stock of fiberglass/ceramic coils.

Anyway, here's the latest official statement from Aspire (from Feb.2) on the subject.

Aspire Support: •View topic - Organic Cotton Coils for the Atlantis

"Dear Customer,
For the details about our product, please refer to:Aspire Support: •View topic - Aspire official statement on Atlantis coils material
Doubts and fears are due to the lack of cognition. Due to the unfamiliar and unknown on the ceramic fiber used in Atlantis atomizer, Aspire R&D team has been researching to use the organic cotton which is widely accepted by people instead of our present material on the premise of maintaining the optimal performance and stability of our products to meet customers attention and requirements.
If any information, our marketing department will post on our website, please pay attention to our website.
Have a nice day!"

I like the "lack of cognition." ;)

Katya, I just checked and I couldn't find anything official but it seems that the word on the street is that the Melo and Atlantis heads are in-fact interchangeable, and the Melo heads are organic cotton. For 20 bucks it's worth buying the tank just to see, if they don't work on the Atlantis then I will have a Melo to add to the rotation. Now, I just have to wait until they're in-stock somewhere...

Thank you for the info :)

It also seems the Melo heads are only $12.99/5 pack opposed to 20+

Its kind of funny about the aspire thing,
Former Smokers of Cig's put 4k chemicals in their body to include one radioactive isotope and never once myself did question it

REally? I questioned all of it........which is WHY I was looking for a way to QUIT smoking.

I knew I was being poisoned slowly. There are many people who desperately want to get off cigs. And there is a reason for that.

I am not going to allow vaping or anything else take from me what cigarettes did. And, when comparing, I guess I will say "take from me even a fraction of what cigarettes did."

when you truly turn a corner and turn over a new leaf. You begin to "think differently" about things.

I'm watching a few people die right now.......the suffering is very real, unlike theoretical posts on forums where people have the luxury of adopting a more cavelier attitude about their health via typing in little white boxes.

Maybe you would be surprised by the things people who are truly suffering say they *regret*.

Yeah, that's what I read, also... But it's all hearsay--in my case.

Hope you can find the Melo and the coils somewhere before the Chinese New Year.

So this is interesting, I was just looking at the Melo and realized that eLeaf describes it as Organic Cotton and Glass Fiber Cotton on the site. The vendors that have it for pre-order are all listing the coil as 100% organic cotton.

Someone on Reddit emailed eLeaf and received this response:

Dear friend, Thanks for your email. In fact, we have made a mistake in the description of the coil. This is the fiber cotton, not glass fiber cotton. Hope you can understand and if any problems feel free to contact us. Have a nice day. Best wishes! Wendy Ismoka service

Interesting to note, the website has not been corrected even though this email is from a month ago....the plot thickens...

When I was researching this ages ago, it turned out silica is often referred to in china as "glass fiber." It does get confusing because then they keep saying it includes organic cotton... hopefully it's one arm of the company not communicating the best with whomever is doing their website (I've been there). If not that, I'd be down with BVCs designed around cotton and safe silica instead of the ceramic fibers.

I'm really, really pulling for these to work out. I think Kanger has the better coil design atm, but it sucks when someone has bought this expensive tank, often at the urging of people at this forum, and then learns the coils are a dark joke with no real replacements. "Learn to rebuild or set it aside" isn't fun to hear, so many are likely to use it because they're invested in it. An option to point them to would really brighten my day.

Yeah, there's been no switch, and it's a bummer. I inferred it orignally here based upon what they said, and a bit later they told pbusardo they were switching and he talked about it in a video. So they *have* said this -- whether they said it because they actually mean it or to try to quiet the uproar is still open.

Since they said they were switching to cotton, they've rolled out smaller BVC coils as replacements for BDC tanks, and messed with the airholes on the coils, and deleted down more comments on the forum... but haven't switched to cotton. Aspire was originally going to have 0.7 and 1 ohm coils for the Atlantis, but have only shipped 0.5... so now there are clone coils for both up on fasttech, and these most definitely aren't cotton either.

I've got this really bad feeling that long after they're gone we'll be dealing with the fallout of research papers being published about these things.

Edit: See the thread linked by nopoison below, like an hour after I posted this it came out that Aspire is now shipping cotton coils but they aren't marked.

It looks like they are real based on the email response here.

Plus Kidney Puncher is selling both versions.

Thanks for the link to that mate, appreciated as I hadn't been watching that thread -- and of course it was like an hour after I shook my fist. ;) There's an amusing exchange on their forums where they're asked about it and do say they're doing a running change (e.g., no revisions to part numbers, versioning, etc. just switch it out) and admit the flavor is better:

Aspire Support: •View topic - Aspire official statement on Atlantis coils material

Looks like Aspire isn't advertising this in their forums or PR releases, nor differentiating the labeling, likely because they (and the shops) don't want to be stuck with unsellable ceramic/fiberglass ones, because that's the kind of company Eigate/Aspire is.

Oh well, if this pans out it's a win in the end -- we can tell people to buy from the shops with cotton stock. Happy dance time!

$21.00 for five though, ouch...

I didn't go through all the responses on here, so forgive me if this has already been asked. I recently purchased an Aspire Nautilus mini and watched a video the other evening on how to dry burn the atty's and reviewed the responses on that video. So it seems, that it's safe and is okay to dry burn the coils on the Mini....so does this article still apply or is it just for the Aspire Atlantis only?

Again, i apologize if this was already asked.

Bwahahaha...... Aspire is investigating.

The plot thickens! :D

Yeah, I have the "cotton" ones in my cart at KP as we speak but hesitated on pulling the trigger. If I do, I may sacrifice my first coil out of the batch to the Vape Gods. Inquiring minds want to know...
