Here is the one and only 46ish mm Jaque Yves Cousteau edition, deep sea diver.
Not only that but it can also be a dripper in case of prolonged low tide. And operate an underwater camera. And make coffee.
I coiled some 3mm ekowool inside it just to see if it works in a Jazz carto pipe and it rocks and rolls the boat like no other.

I've been meaning to test a similar idea out, now you've inspired me to do this tomorrow! Nice!

I am very excited today. In my best George Takei voice: "Oh, my!"

I tried out the wick configuration pictured above in andrebandre's post. I used the cartodriver to remove one Diver, and inserted the other with the new coil&wick last night. Specifically, 32g Kanthal A-1 and nickel NR @ 1.3 ohms, 1.5mm Ekowool. It had about 1.5 inches of Ekowool on each side, but I only trimmed down one side of it. I would have kept both, but it would get too crowded in the Diver stem, and it won't screw on with that much wick sticking out the sides of the base. Once I had trimmed one of the two sides of the wick, I took a very long, thin awl, poked the needle end into the top opening of the ceramic, and wrapped the remaining long wick end around the needle of the awl. I then slid the Diver top down the awl, screwed the top on the base, and removed the awl. I trimmed a bit off the end of the wick that had frayed, and used the awl to gently adjust the wick, which had coiled around the inner surface of the Diver top.

I did this last night, inserted into the Scuba tank, topped the tank off, vaped a bit, and let it sit overnight. I would normally have woken to a few drops of leaked juice between the Scuba Diver and the top of the Lux. This morning, it was bone dry. The vape is perfect - zero gurgling, and not a hint of juice coming out the bottom of the Scuba Diver, even though the tank is full. This is from the first drag onward. With the usual wick setup, the first few drags always had a bit of gurgling. A full tank always leaked a few drops out the bottom.

I will swap out the same configuration a few more times this week, to make sure this wasn't a one-off lucky perfect setup. If this works, I strongly recommend everybody try out this setup. I'll try to take a few pictures when I do my next setup, to clarify things for folks who want to give this a try.

Coil made and wrapped, inserted into base. One side trimmed. I had to trim a bit more, as it was too thick, and the Diver top wouldn't fit.

The awl inserted into the ceramic, on one side of the coil.

The 1.5mm Ekowool wrapped around the awl.

Slide the Diver top over the awl's handle, and down onto the base

Diver top in place. The end of the Ekowool sticks out, ready to be trimmed.

Ekowool end trimmed.

Use the awl or another tool to push the Ekowool down. Make sure there is a "chimney" formed by the Ekowool as it spirals down into the Diver.

Hey Kat, this spiral wick is only good for dripping or for tanked too?

I have it in a Scuba tank. I have vaped over a tank's worth of Maha Ras since last night. I have switched between 2 Divers with the same configuration.

I did actually drip it before inserting into the Scuba, and while it won't replace a Grail (which I just ordered, btw), it's definitely drippable for very short stints.

How does this not block the juice hole?

Don't push the wick too far down when you are adjusting it in the last step. You want it to come to rest as if it is a spiral staircase climbing up the inside circumference of the Diver, with room between loops. It should do this on its own. I just gently nudged the top of the wick in enough so it wouldn't protrude out the top of the Diver. If you pack it in, I imagine it might block the juice hole.

I didn't want to tear down my setup to try this so I took 2 short pieces of 1ml cotton braid and stuff them down the tube on each side of the cup in the hopes of sopping up the extra juice so I don't get as much gurgle and it worked and the flavor is much better. Thanks for the idea. I'll try your way next time I have to make a new coil which might be for awhile. :)

The leaking over extended periods of time of non vaping drove me nuts.
I used to fill just a little over half a tank and leave it horizontally over night with the hole up above the fluid level.
The way i did it was to build a normal coil with 1.5mm eko and use the fat 3mm eko with the bottom end frayed in the hope that it will make contact through many capillaries with the regular wick and not block the passage of the air.
It worked for me just as it did for you even in an XL tank.
No leaks after 2 or 3 days now and no gurgle.
That huge 3mm wick soaks up slowly and has plenty of wicking capability to take care of many hours of non use.
And i too, think that the flavor is a little enhanced by the vapor traveling inside the chimney and maybe snatching a little more aroma on it's way up.

Are you saying that you just dropped the 3mm ecowool down the tube or you twisted it like was suggested above?

I coiled it around the inside of the tube making sure i don't obstruct the air flow.
Look at the pics in my post on page 92.
Big fat wick but plenty of room inside for the air to travel unobstructed.

One short follow-up. I vaped the tank dry with zero liquid appearing in the mod well or on the bottom of the Scuba Diver. Every drag was perfect, no gurgling at all. I then removed the Diver with the cartodriver, cleaned out the Scuba and installed the other Diver. I then filled it with Ahlusion's Smooth Criminal, which is thick as maple syrup.

I deliberately poked around at the wick to get it to block the juice hole. I was able to do so as it quickly began giving me dry hits. I then put the awl into the Diver and poked at the wick a bit to move it around, and this fixed the blockage. It has been vaping perfectly since.

I believe that, when installing a new wick&coil, there is a chance you will block the juice hole, but it seems very easy to fix, and once you reposition the wick, it should stay put. The coiled position should offer a natural resistance to movement, and even a bit of juice in the wick should create tackiness which will help it cling to the side of the Diver top.

I'll test it over the following days and see if and how often the juice hole gets blocked on its own. It hasn't done it yet, but I haven't been carrying it around in my pocket or in my hand while walking.

Big shout out, sir. I've been thinking of similar solutions for the same problem, but your post inspired me to hunker down and try this.
