I tried searching for this on the forums but the keywords "atomizer" "burning" and "smoke" do not narrow down to what I am looking for. So I apologize if this has been discussed before.

I am a new member so I guess this is the only place I can post this:

Today my DSE901 with a freshly refilled cart and fully charged battery gave me a hit like burning metal. It reminded me a bit of the sulfur taste you get when you don't let a match stop flaring before lighting an analog.

Something was definitely burning and creating smoke! I imagine it was toxic as hell. I ditched the atomizer right away. Now I am paranoid that I am inhaling toxic crap from burning up atomizers- that's why I quit the analogs!

Now I keep thinking I am getting a hint of that toxic smoke with my vapor!

Anyone have this happen to them? Should I just ditch the whole setup and get a whole new battery/atomizer set?

Just smoke through it is my advise--it disappers quickly if you vape alot--But, and many others here truly think that other then blowing the atomizer out and letting it drain overnight, cleaning an atomizer only shortens the life. The thin wires in them can not stand boiling or steam cleaning. The main reason for atomizer failure other then the constant expanding and contracting from being heated and cooled hundreds of times is the THE CLEANING CLYLE. It burns the coils way to hot, burns the thin wire, and leads to their demise. An atomizer lasts way longer on a USB passthough that does not have a cleaning clycle--at least that is what some of us have found. They need to get rid of that dam cleaning cycle--it is as if they built in a "kill it cycle" so you have to go buy another one!!!

I thought I had experienced a cleaning cycle before, both on my pen style and my 901. Maybe this one was just particularly brutal. In any case I'm gonna soak the atomizer in some water over night and then try it again.. after drying and priming of course.

Man I would pay several hundreds of dollars for a reliable, durable, electronic cigarette. When will someone come up with one? The Sony of e-smoking? Where are they? So far in my experience price is not an indicator of quality, just marketing budgets when it comes to e-cigs. I wasted a few bucks figuring that one out.

I'll just take your word for it that it was a cleaning cycle and continue as I have been for now.

It's totally nasty! About a thousand times worse than cartridge fuzz burning. I have to say my favorite thing about the USB is avoiding that stupid cleaning cycle.

GabbyD - I guess I'm going to have to get a pass thru - and save the batts for when I'm out and about. Thanks for the info about the pass thru's. I wasn't aware that was an additional benefit to them.

This e-smoking habit is expensive with all the "equipment" needed. But.... far better than the nasty analogs.8-o

I've spent several hundred dollars to avoid spending about $80 on American Spirits so far. I keep telling myself that once I get the hang of this e-smoking thing and find the good products it will even out. I just hope that our hunches are right and that this e-smoking is less bad for you than traditional cigarettes.

Right now I fee like I am MORE addicted to nicotine than I was, I just have a different way of getting it. Again I am rationalizing that I needed more nicotine in order to wean myself off the analogs and that I can control my nicotine intake by way of mixing down the e-juice. My goal is to get off the stuff entirely before it kills me, I hope. I hope.

But eh.. if you can't quit you have to do something to try to save yourself right? So I'm doing something...

it sure seems to be a lot healther--After 2 weeks I was able to smell the stench of cigs after all these years--to think I smelled like that!! The car, house----what an embarresment that was and I did not even know it--thought everybody was giving me the "drama routine"--now with the vaping--no one smells anything on me. What is that worth along with your health??

Ha ha! Yea, I smell that now too although I admit I still smoke about 2 analogs a day.. (way better than a pack+ tho) But after switching to the e-cigs my housemate says I smell like a Glade Plugin! 8-o

Is that better? I dunno.

If the atty is actually smoking, you fried it. If the PT itself is smoking, you fried it. Both are cheap. Always good to have extras for both. I fried a PT. Opened it up and one of the resistors on the little circuit board was torched. Cost me $10, no biggie. Guess it couldn't take my relentless long hits. PTs are great, but are prone to sudden death. Like attys.
