OK, here's what my problem is:

I've been working on Bigbulli's Repairable CE2 using a SS wick. I oxidized the wicks; fired and quenched 3X. I ordered some Kanthal A1 from eBay and when I did, the smallest I could find at that time was 32 awg. I wrapped a coil on a SS wick and hooked it onto the repairable CE2. I'm fairly certain with this one that when I measured the ohms before filling the CE2, it was reading ~2.4. After filling the CE2 and using it for a few minutes; I measured the ohms again (it was really hissing and spitting ). This time the reading was 1.6 ohm.

OK, figured it was the larger gauge Kanthal, so I went onto eBay and found some 34 awg wire. I got that in today and wrapped another coil (on another SS wick), hooked this onto another prepped repairable CE2 and measured the ohms before filling. Measured this a couple of times, came out to 2.9 ohms (I've been using 3.2 ohm clearos, so was shooting for something in this range). Figured that was pretty good. Filled the CE2 and started vaping. After a few hits, popped it off and measured ohms again. Ohms measured out at 1.6. WTF?!?

Any ideas on what's going on here?

TIA

You may be wrapping the wire to tight. As it expands and contracts it breaks the thin film which oxides the wick.

poland, and the brassy lands of google
Very much sounds like a short. I burn a PG juice 8-10 times, quenching with a drop of juice and only counting the times it brings the mesh to a nice orange glow. To make a loose wrap, wrap around snug each revolution but have a spot each turn where you ease up on the tension (like to clear a positive post)-- this keeps a nice round spiral but each wrap gets backed off a bit. Your high and low reading could well be the presence of juice making a difference, wet= you get a barrier, dry= exposed short.

Adjusting the coil's position could help some, but I would oxidize more.
