atomizer reading low ohms...

okay! So this all started yesterday (cue flashback sequence):
I was vaping happily away when my provari flashed a shorted Atty error. I lowered the voltage, vaped a bit, but the error kept coming back. Couldn't set it above 3.5v without an error. Silly me did not think to check the resistance of the atomizer at that time, so I opted to clean the Atty, let it dry overnight, and reassess.
This morning: exactly the same thing, but I decided to check the atomizer and it's reading 1.4ohms. A week when I got it the same Atty was reading 2ohms.
Now, it's a stat holiday in Canada today so I cannot get another atomizer to compare readings, so until then i'm just wondering if anyone knows what these symptoms could mean.

Any advice appreciated!

Something has probably caused a few of the coils to start touching each other. That's about the only thing that can cause the resistance to get lower, other than a foreign object in the atomizer shorting out the coils. Or excessive water content in the liquid could possibly do it, I suppose. Either way, it's time to either rebuild the atomizer or replace the head, depending on what kind it is.

Thanks for the help! I guess I need to take better care of my atomizers! Maybe a prophylactic cleaning next time before the problems start.

rake them with a paper clip so there isnt a short connection

This is the one I have:

Nothing fancy! I'm wondering now if maybe it's not dry completely and this is why? I'm not sure.

Sometimes it could range resistance for poor connection between the atomizer and the battery/mod.

Try tightening a little.

I did that and it helped a bit by adjusting the connection, and cleaning the part that sits on the battery (went from a reading of 1.3ohms to 1.4ohms), but it's still odd. Is this normally what happens when atomizers burn out?

Also wondering:
Is it safe to use still since I can't get a new one until 10am tomorow? It works fine at low voltage (3.0). Today I haven't used it at all except to test it out this morning.

Sometimes gunk collects on the coil shorting it out, you can try dry burning the coil for a few seconds.

A 2.0ohm atomizer will be running 8 watts at 4 volts
A 1.5ohm atomizer will be running 7.71 watts at 3.40 volts

So as long as the Atomizer does not completely short(stays as is) it should Vape decent around 3.0-3.3v Higher is to Hot

ETA - Soak in Alcohol - pure grain or Vodka work well
Blow out (from connector end) and let dry a bit

NEVER DRY BURY this type Atomizer - That WILL Kill it

Thank you so much I appreciate the advice/information and feel a little safer using it intermittently until tomorrow. The kicker is: I DO have a spare atomizer, but it doesn't fit on the provari. I went into a store, told the guy what I have, and he gave me an atomizer that doesn't fit woops! Tomorrow I'm bringing it in and making sure before I leave the store!

i've never much found any consistency in the cheaper atomziers. but then again, cheaper was the word there

Looks like I have been lucky because I have been using this method http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/forum/tips-tricks/69834-my-atty-resurrection-method.html for over two years and only managed to kill one or two atomizers in the process but they were also old.

Hmmm... once I get another atomizer tomorrow I think I'm going to try this! 2 years is a pretty good run lol

You can try cleaning it with the method below and letting it dry very good overnight (sounds like you have burnt/cooked juice inside the wick and coil)

I do notice my bottom coil carto on my Totally Wicked Tornado RCS (which is alot like a Kanger protank) if I get a funky flavor, just take it out, pop in a new coil, rinse the bejesus out of the nasty tasting one...blow it out and let it sit and dry it usually cleans up the funky/burnt taste, then just rotate em out if they go all nasty on me...I bet the coils got funktified and shorted

There is also a kit out now called "The Plunger" which is a reverse flow cleaner...it has a 510 to syringe adapter that allows you to back feed the direction the juice flows...might be another way to clean it up
