It can be a long slow process recovering batteries that have dropped below 1.0 volts but Xtars can do it. (Even the older WP2 II - but without the benefit of the display.) But whenever you run across a "multi-charger" that says it can do NiMh, LiOn and NiCd the price you pay is losing the ability to bring LiOn batteries that have been allowed to go under voltage back to life. I think the XP4 is the only one in the Xtar line right now that's a multi-charger. It's just best to avoid multi chargers.

Completely independent. Any size battery or capacity can go in any slot - with an asterisk. On the VP4 the bigass 26650's - and even 36650s - will only fit in slot 1 and 4 - has fatter cradles to better fit those sizes there.

Technical review of the VP4 here. ~> Review of Charger Xtar VP4

Also, when buying keep in mind that any Xtar charger is backed with a two year warranty - as long as you buy from an authorized dealer. That would be a place like RTD Vapor, of course. You can also purchase directly from Xtar in the USA at www.xtardirect.com

Awesome review on the VP4!! Glad to know about the 2-year warranty. Didn't know about that.

If you go there take a look at the MC2 even - last I looked it was less than ten bucks if you buy it without a USB power supply. It's an idjut proof design and will adjust the charge current to what it detects for the power supply you plug it into. Works best with a 1 amp USB supply, but will still work with a 500 mA supply - at lower charging current. It can't hurt the charger or an "under powered" USB supply in the process. Great little charger - about the size of a Reo Grand. Still has two independent channels.

Technical review of that one here. ~> Review of Charger Xtar MC2

I may have to pick one of these up soon. The ability to charge an odd number of batteries is highly appealing to me. I wasn't even looking for a new charger, you freaking enablers are awful. ;)

I had the VP1 bookmarked for ages but never pulled the trigger. After reading this, I just bought a VP4. Time to retire the Nitecore D2 and i2

Yep. Know what you mean. This time last week, I wasn't even remotely thinking about a new charger. The Nitecore i2 was it. Then, a battery stops charging correctly, and really think the charger caused it (snowball). Now house fires are popping in mind; overheated chargers that melted (stories, pictures everywhere on internet); under-charging batteries; over-charging batteries - which eventually ruins them. (The avalanche has begun).

It's snowing $40 my way as well - but for the better. Should not have to worry about catastrophes, and other scenarios happening anymore. ;)

Yup, I'm going to order one tonight.

I hate you, Reoville. And I love you. But I hate you.

I propose a Reoville Book on what to get; what NOT to get. All of us here in Reoville should sign it have it published... so future Reonauts will have a money saving spending guide to go by. :toast:

Nah! Half the fun is buying the latest/greatest, only to find out something better has come out within a week :) Afterall, we don't have APV's to spend money on any more!

I have an XTAR Vp4 and it works wonderfully. Have never had an issue. It is my go to charger. Also have an Efest Luc4 that I use when I have more than 4 to charge. I prefer using the XTAR. I never charge unless I am around and can take the batteries off the charger once they are charged. Ya just never know and I would rather be safe than sorry. [emoji6]

Another good feature I'm liking about the VP4 (and VP2 as well)... it has Zero Volt charging. Meaning... it can recognize a battery even at ZERO Volts, and then charge it. Most chargers won't even recognize a battery below 3.2v ...let alone ZERO. That's just sick! Unheard of. Off the charts.

Funny you should mention this. Last week I was vaping my Peko, (24hrs old), when suddenly it seemed as though it wasn't vaping up to spec and after readjusting everything and it still not vaping right, it dawned on me....maybe I should check the battery!!! LG HE2 had been in it for over a day as I was enjoying the vape so much. Metered out @ 2.3V.... Thought it was toast. Slapped it in my D2 and though it took a little longer to fully charge, the battery is still functional and vaping as normal still. I have vaped a few batteries down to 2.5-2.7V range, but never below that. My D2 recognized and charged the battery no problem, but I still don't like the charger because it will only charge my batteries to 4.15-4.17V maximum.... I have been looking for a new charger and think the VP2 or VP4 would be my choice now...

Format, 4.16 measured on the charger itself? Or something else? My 510 voltage meter reads 4.2 as 4.16, that's why I ask. It's really 4.2 though.

I just got the vp4 today. Very impressive. This is my primary charger now and the i4 has been relegated to backup

My D2 will only charge to 4.15-4.17V max. On the D2 it reads 4.2V but on my DMM it is 4.15-4.17V... It is definitely the charger that is the problem. I contacted NiteCore and their response was it falls within tolerance and did nothing about it.

Glad to hear sloth. Is the VP4 working better than the Nitcore?? What does the AW 1600 and 2200 read on the VP4 - AFTER a Full Charge??

Other folks that have a VP4, feel free to post your results as well. ;)

Sounds messed up. :?: Don't get why they just don't make a charger that reads correctly. Nitecore reps should have shown more interest in solving the problem. They just don't realize how quickly something like this gets around, and how it will affect future sales.
