This was from a post by Baditude (our resident battery/safety expert). It includes a list of batteries you may be interested in.

The AW 18650 IMR 2000 mah battery has a 10 amp continuous discharge rated limit. Theoretically, you could power a 0.5 ohm coil at its upper limit. I build my coils to 0.6 ohms, predominantly using Sony VTC 30 amp continuous discharge rated batteries, but if no VTC batteries are charged, I can temporarily use my AW's until my Sony's are charged and ready.

1.0 ohm = 4.2 amp draw
0.9 ohm = 4.6 amp draw
0.8 ohm = 5.2 amp draw
0.7 ohms = 6 amp draw
0.6 ohms = 7 amp draw
0.5 ohms = 8.4 amp draw

0.4 ohms = 10.5 amp draw
0.3 ohms = 14.0 amp draw
0.2 ohms = 21.0 amp draw
0.1 ohms = 42.0 amp draw

The AW 18650 IMR 1600 mah battery has a 24 amp continuous discharge limit. Theoretically, you could power a 0.2 ohm coil at its upper limit.

Explain it to the dumb noob: Ohm's Law calculations

Are these good for sub ohm vaping I did the math I think correctly and it has a max discharge of ten amps max? The battery is red in color. Wanted to run .48 ohms dual coil config in my kraken atomizer. I see all these guy do on YouTube is run sub ohm one dude even had his coils produce fire

I've been vaping on them for a year now with a genny coiled at .7 ohm, and they have done all I've asked of them. I have 10 of them I rotate through my mech.

Your noted battery has a max continuous discharge rate of 10 amps. That's pushing it too close for my comfort.

I suggest brushing up on battery performance specs and having a good understanding of Ohm's Law before you go any further.

Susan yes I'm an 18 year electrician ohms law is my cousin [emoji12]

Then I would think you would Want/Understand that you should have a Little Safety Buffer between what your Coils is going to Ask a Battery to do and what a Specs says a Battery Should Do.

Things start to happen Fast when you get Below .5 Ohms.

I would want at Least a 15A Continuous Battery if I was going to pull 10A.

I read your blog in you previous post. Good stuff!

I agree on the cheap voltmeter resistance reading comment. With so many people subohming these days, they need to understand the difference between auto-ranging VOM's and those that aren't. I have several Harbor Freight $5 VOM's and one nicer one from Northern Tools around the house because I don't want to walk stairs to get to one when I need it. I have them in the truck, upstairs, in the basement, and on the first floor. They are all non-auto ranging or non-auto zeroing on ohms.

I see about .4 ohms lead resistance on all my non auto meters. For a sub ohmer, .4 extra ohms on the reading could make a critical difference. If you don't subtract lead resistance you could make a coil that read .5 ohms but was really a .1 ohm coil.

Thanks for pointing that out in your blog.
