just got the aw imr's in and of course before i put them on the charger i decided to volt test them. All four are showing me a charge of 3.96V. Does this mean one is to use them BEFORE charging for the first time? if so i am going to slap (ok ok slide) two of them into the saber and fire it up

Alright the first set of AW IMR's just came off the charger, and i did a volt test...umm 4.44V is that normal? when i rubbed my eyes to make sure i seen that right i did another volt test and i got a solid 4.36V on one of them, the other is still charging...

Second battery came off the charger at 4.32V....first battery is down to 4.33V

4.2V is max off charger (couple hundredths above that no biggie, but really should be < 4.25), for a standard AW IMR 18650.

Sounds like your charger isn't playing well with those batteries, or the batteries are defective, or your voltage meter isn't working right. Those readings are too high, not what you want to see.

I was afraid it was one of those, just did a 3rd reading and i have one battery at 4.19V and the other at 4.20V......i will wait another 10 minutes and see if they stay that way....the volt meter i have is the Canadian Tire Master craft one. I know when i put the IMR's on the charger when they were pretty much "dead" and could not power my saber touch, the reading i got was about 2.85V

Leaning towards either charger or batteries defective -- if it was just a meter bias, the readings would likely be stable.

Defects do happen -- I got a new PV, and new batteries, in Feb, one of the batteries was simply toast, charged to 4.4V (though the other in the pair was fine).

Take the readings with the volt meter with a grain of salt. It is after all a $9.00 meter. I wouldn't let the batteries go that dead though. Charge more frequently. This is much better for the batteries.

:D this is the first time (last night) i got the aw imr's.......and it was $9 on sale from original $35 praise be to Canadian tire sales LMFAO

I was wondering that when i took a 5th reading and now got 4.11V and 4.17V (jumping to 4.19V) LOL they are discharging themselves for no good reason :D going to email vaporus and see what he can do, and hope it was just defective and this is not going to happen to the second set i am using in the saber right now :D

Unless the meter is toast, 4.4V is way too high for comfort. To ignore a reading because it is inconvenient does not make sense.

By any chance have you got other batteries that seem to be okay with the charger? Have they come off at about 4.2V?

sorry i did not see this one, and yes i have some trust fire's and fully charged i get a solid 4.19V on them right off the charger.....like i said i was thinking it would be bad batteries but wanted a second opinion in case i was wrong :D

Should be fine then, no biggie, DOA. In my case I didn't even ship the bad battery back, I just let the vendor know I would dispose of it safely, local electronics store recycle center; vendor was happy with that, no pushback, since nobody wants to send bad batteries around in the mail.

There ya go. Didn't realize you had verified meter gives a good read with another battery. My bad.

~whispers~ i didn't until you said maybe the meter was wonky, so i ran a "test" of checking some other batteries, and the ego pass through voltage which was fully charged :D
