Back to ecigs again

Well i started using e-cigarrettes in 2009 to quit smoking. I ended up switching to snus in 2010 or so. then the pact act hit and i ended up dipping. Was still happy to just be off the cigs though. Now my gums are starting to get messed up so i decided to give ecigs a try again.

I actually still had a prodigy v2 and a ggts v1, but i bought a new I taste svd from fast tech and a pro tank.

Pretty happy with it. Vapes better than the old style mods.

So far so good on getting off dip, though i did mess up and get 24mg eliquid I'd probably be better off with 16-18mg. (When i used these things to quit smoking i barely felt 24mg)

Basically i guess my goal is to only use a little general snus and my ecig instead of a can and a half of grizzly per day. Not really looking to quit just trying yo save my gums and teeth. Quitting 100% would be great but I'm not really expecting it due to the results i got the last time i used ecigs.

They were good but I'm really addicted to WTA. So well see how i do in the coming weeks.

Welcome to ECF and good luck this time around! It seems that vaping has progressed a lot in the years you've been away and I'm sure you can find something that will totally satisfy you if you look hard enough.

If I may ask, what was it that turned you off to vaping before?

I stopped mainly because it just didn't kill my cigarette cravings. High nicotine snus did.

That and just laziness and cost. I live in PA and i can get 10 cans of dip for $10. (For people who don't know, smokeless tobacco, even the American snuff is quite a bit of harm reduction compared to cigarettes)

I know there is wta eliquid now, but its pretty expensive.

Its much cheaper to vape now with all the new stuff and so far the hardware i have is way way less finicky. That's the main reason I decided to try again

I've never tried SNUS, so this is speaking without taking that experience into consideration....

I started vaping back in March of this year. It was easy to quit smoking at first. Now, not so much. I have found that WTA really helps. It's expensive, yes. But, I find you don't have to use it all day, just intermittently throughout the day or when you feel a particularly strong urge to smoke. A 10 ml 24 mg bottle of WTA lasts me more than a week, sometimes up to two weeks, depending. I vape 18-24mg regular nic liquid at other times. I would suggest trying WTA before you totally push the idea aside.

You can get it from 2 vendors that I know of at the moment (maybe more that I don't know about):

Whole Tobacco Alkaloid WTA Eliquid Ejuice

WholeCig

I'm doing good so far, just 2 days but I've cut my dip consumption about 70 - 80% with the 24mg e-liquid. (like I said I normally dip about 1 can to 1 1/2 cans, I barely touched my can in the last 2 days, maybe 1/4 a can) Thus far, I'm satisfied and it seems to be working the way I want it to, I'm sure my gums will be thanking me soon.

After I'm comfortable I'll switch back over to the lower nic General Snus just to fill the WTA, and I think that'll completely solve my dental issues. :)

The day cheap WTA e-liquid surfaces is the day I never touch anything other than an e-cig.

Welcome back :)
I can't really say all too much or give you too many pointers but can only speak from my own (short) experience.
I've been vaping now for a little over a week and have not touched a cigarette since the moment I started vaping.

I smoked a lot, had been smoking for up and about 27 years and was getting tired of coughing up a lung (or two) in the morning. I go through quite some fluids (at least it feels that way having to fill up the cartomizer about 3 times a day) but am so glad I got off those cigs.

Especially if you find a flavor you really love, I think you will end up dropping your snus eventually too.
Good luck and I'm sure, like I have, you'll find a flood of information, recommendations, etc here in these new member forums.
(some pretty friendly and cool peeps here too)

See you around :)

I may actually end up dropping it, I don't know yet. We'll see how it plays out. I actually already know what juices I like since I used e-cigarettes for about a year before jumping to smokeless.

Thankfully my tastes are actually quite simple and I actually prefer the Dekang e-liquids (red bull & blueberry) I just ordered some lesser strength from fasttech. (6mg - 18mg) 24mg is a bit much for me now compared to before.

I have a bunch of pending orders on fasttech, I ended up spending about $250 on my "startup" costs.

This is what I have currently (what I'm using at this very minute)

1x Itaste SVD
1x Protank
5x backup protank coils
6x 18650 Samsung & Sony 4 of them are high drain batteries for my mechanical whenever I get it.
1x tr-001 charger (I have a nitecore i4 on order, this was really my only screw up..)
100ml 24mg Dekang E-Liquid
Igo-L Rebuildable Atomizer
30awg Kanthal A-1 50 ft
25ft 3mm Silica Wick

On Order

Ithaka Clone
Nitecore i4 Charger
Chi You Clone
Assortment of 6 - 18MG e-liquid 350ml (mostly because I figure with the low ohm mechanical stuff I'm going to need lower mg liquid for sure)

All added up it's exactly $250. I should only have to worry about juice, no resistance wire, and different awg wire in the near future. That's a pretty good deal as a "startup" kit. I don't really see my costs even touching what I used to spend in 2009/2010 on vaping. (I was probably at about $100/mo, I'm estimating more around $40/mo even with startup costs included for a year, which is very comparable to what I'm spending on smokeless)

This would be way cheaper if I didn't always want to have high end stuff with vaping, technically I could probably just not do the low ohm stuff with mechanicals but I know I like messing with stuff so there's no way it wouldn't happen.

I plan on rebuilding everything including the protank coils. Already have a multi-meter since I do soldering work here and there on electronics.

I was kinda high end for the time with a GGTS & AVS system but alas, my GGTS is way too worn out to really be trustworthy at this point.

So with this investment size I'm pretty confident I'm going to stick with it for at least half a year

I'm a former snus user and I was able to get of it by using high strength nicotine. It was a little tuff at first but it was doable. I even have a half full, expired, can of General portion on my desk. As mentioned above there are WTA vendors out there. That should help. Give it a try and give your gums and teeth a break.

MagicPanda,

You got a great startup set, but you really need to focus on your nicotine, that's what seems to be the key for you. If you can spend $250 on gear, splurge the extra $16 with shipping costs to try WTA and see the difference. All of the great gear won't matter if you don't get a satisfaction strong enough to resist smoking.

It took me 4 months before I tried it. I've not been disappointed with it at all, as most people have not from what I have read here on the forums.

It's a personal journey for us all, some quit or transition easier than others. But, in the end, you have to do what works for you.

Flowerpots, I'm not resisting smoking, I'm resisting dipping. I kicked cigs years ago with ecigs & snus.

The main reason why I spent $250 was because I know I'm pretty picky with my vapor, from my past experience and low end gear doesn't really satisfy me at all. 6v + GGTS + AVS & burning out 510/901's constantly was my old setup. I'm really liking the rebuildable drippers so far and the Ithaka clone, when it gets here will probably suit my needs. I also want it to last and have backups on hand because that was another reason why I ended up quitting the ecigs in the first place.

I'm a little bit more prepared this go around with ecigarettes, I wouldn't really expect a total new person to spend that much all at once, I just sort of know what it takes already. It's not as if I took that spending lightly, I have calculations floating around my head for how much it's going to cost yearly, and getting good gear is just a cost with ecigs that's completely necessary if you want to stick with it. (if you knew me in person you'd know I'm a very frugal person.. )

Yea, I probably do need to get at least a little bit of WTA eliquid. I feel really cloudy all day if I use only the 24mg nicotine. It's not overdoing the nicotine like I thought, it's withdrawal. A decent portion of dip gets rid of it completely.

I'm at about 1 - 2 cans per week right now, so I'm mostly ecig, which I think is pretty good, but yes I would like to 100% quit the dip so I don't have to worry about getting multiple gum grafts in the future. (I might actually end up needing to get one at some point to fix the damage I've already caused)

Of course, once I make the switch back to General Snus - gum grafts won't really be a fear, it doesn't do much damage compared to dip.

I think my plan is --> ecig & dip for 3 - 4 wks --> ecig & snus for 3 - 4 wks --> ecig & wta liquid 3 - 4 wks --> no wta --> lower nicotine levels in e-liquid to whatever I want.

Obama is the one that sort of screwed me over with the PACT act, I was doing fine on v2 Tobacco Thunder Snus, but costs skyrocketed for snus after the PACT act and General is pretty weak and overpriced as well. Dip was the only thing that had the nicotine I was after so I ended up using it :(

*My very first kit was like most people in 2009, the DSE901 kit.

I misunderstood; I did not realize you were dipping at this point. My apologies :)

If you want to try the WTA, I have a few flavors I could send you. It's up to you if you want to try it, but if you, just PM me. The WTA liquids are 24mg also, but you really don't have to vape them often, not as often as the regular nicotine. I have a berry, some peach, 2 tobacco flavors, one dry one sweet.

I had started on a similar setup as you did in 2009, and if I had not switched to a better one, I likely would not be doing as well as I am. You have a good plan - I wish you the best with it.

How much is the SNUS, just out of curiosity?
