Personally I would say if you have a set up you like there's a lot to be said for just getting one to five more of the same! Does save having to buy lots of different coils - between Scotland and Spain I think I have around six iSticks and 4 Kanger 40w boxes with Heaven knows how many Nautilus Minis.

I keep reading how important it is to have a backup setup. I have been gaping for 2 months now, with no cigarettes. So far, so good. I use a Joyetech mod, triton tank, i have 2 batteries, and a charger. What would be a good backup setup for me ?

Ummmm, if you've been gaping for 2 months you may want to consult a doctor...

I'll likely get frowned at for this, but I would heartily recommend an 18650 tube mech with a standard 510 connector. I hate hybrid tops... stay away from those.

Here's my reasoning... A mech has no circuitry... just a battery feeding voltage to your atomizer. Unless it gets dropped in a pool or run over by a car or left firing, there's very little that can go wrong with proper use. I adore my regulated mods. Ask anyone and they'll tell you that I am a hoarde... er... hobbyist? Collector? But I know from experience how fickle electronics can be. I have five regulated mods in a drawer here that just decided to stop working one day... and that was that...

That's all kind of a doomsday scenario, of course. I live in a rural area and the nearest vape shop is a ways away, so I tend to think like that. If your nearest vape shop is a block over, then a carbon copy of what you are currently running would suffice and prevent you from having to learn a new menu or purchase different coils.

If you are happy with what you have, get the same. Costs will be a lot lower, overall.

For me and where I am at, I get a step up in quality each time and make it my primary. The previous one just becomes my back-up. I have a Tupperware kit in my car that has spare stuff in it.

It is good to have a spare mod and spare everything else, but not necessary to spend foolishly.

Hi! +1 to @Falconeer, there's no reason not to duplicate your set up if you like it. Or, you could use it as an opportunity to experiment. Try something different-- a Kanger Topbox kit leaps to mind-- and whichever one you like best becomes your main rig, while the other is your backup.

I also agree with @Shawn Hoefer, an 18650 tube mech and a couple spare batteries is useful vapocalypse stash, and will keep you going when times are hard. Frankly, mechs are no longer the best choice; regulated mods are easier to use, more flexible, and safer. But it is really hard to break a mech, so long as you keep them clean, and that's also useful. Mechs can not be used to their full potential with prefab coils; you have to build your coils as this is the only way to vary the vape. But they work just fine with prefabs, and are safe enough so long as you stay away from faux hybrid top caps, use good, 20A batteries, and don't try to put a coil below about .5 ohms on a one battery tube; they simply can't deliver their full range of potential like that. It's easy to spend hundreds of dollars-- thousands, for some rare customs-- on a top quality mech, but I would recommend you avoid that and leave it to crusty old mech-heads like me. It's hard to beat a Nemesis clone-- I have 3, and vape them all the time-- and you can buy one from Fasttech for $15. Another good clone is a King V2, about the same price. For an authentic, the Wotofo Phantom (CAUTION: it comes with both standard and faux hybrid top caps; always, always use the one with the center pin!) is available under $40 and, if you look around for a sale, the Council of Vapor Kindred V1.5 can be had under $50. Both of them are excellent pieces of gear.

Welcome kjg15130 :)

There's nothing wrong with having an identical backup mod of what you're currently using - especially this early in your vape journey. When I first started, I had a couple of different (but very similar) setups, and I had THREE OF EACH :D

As I have learned more about this thing called "vaping", I'm more comfortable with variety in my gear. I have a couple of mech mods in my stash, but they're not often used. I prefer regulated, but I'm also positioned, just in case....

If you come across something that catches your eye, ask. Someone here probably has (at least) one and can give you some feedback.
