Good Morning Bill...........My little dog seems to be a handful. Our previous dog border collie - springer spaniel mix) was walked twice a day. My little rascal wants to walk 4 - 5 times a day, in addition to play. She's tireless.
I don't duck and goose hunt anymore Rar, (wish I did) My two youngest labs would love it and have energy to spare.

When the springer - border collie was an adolescent, he jumped on a seagull or pigeon as we were getting out of our canoe, and killed it. (Yes...apparently it was a very slow bird) Anyway, he VERY GENTLY picked it up and carried it to my husband and dropped it. So, it seems the bird dog qualities must be genetic.

I have found that the females have a gentle mouth and some of the males I have owned and trained were not that way. They all love to retreive and it is so much fun watching them work.

Glad you asked Rar, it is a somewhat important part of the story that I totally omitted. The 7th and final phone call was to ORCA who sent a representative out to pick up the raccoon so it could be tested and, i assume, treated for whatever illness it had if it wasn't rabies. If it was rabies then it was probably destroyed. Funny thing about the ORCA people though. All that responsible treatment of animals stuff that they preach I was kinda surprised when the dude asked if we had some way to pen it so that it was still around when the ORCA rep arrived. For lack of anything better to do at that point, my neighbor, who farms, had a smallish pig trough that wasn't in use...we flipped it over and used it as a pen till the ORCA folks arrived.

Good Morning Whiskey........Happy Sunday to All.........

Great story Phorbin.........Ultimately, what happened to the raccoon? Hopefully it didn't go wandering off where some kids (or foolish adults) will try to pet it. 8-o

Hey Gang, apologize for my absence. Just wanted to drop by and thank Don again for BacKo. I honestly think without it, I would be back on the stinkies. No other juice satisfies me like it does. I can use a few in moderation, but BacKo is my all day, everyday vape.

Had the same thing happen to us a couple of years ago with a raccoon right in front of our doorway stairs in the middle of the day. The critter would'nt move from the front of the stairs and was making a weird noise, called the neighbor and he tried making some noise and it would'nt move a inch. We knew it was probably sick, called our local SPCA and it took them almost 3 hrs with calling them at least 3 times. We had plans to go out that day but of course we were too scared to get near it in case it might be rabied and try to attack us. As you said they really didn't think of it as something they needed to do right away. We were worried someone would walk by maybe kids and it would attack someone so we just sat by the window and if we saw someone come near the house we'd have them go across the street/road to avoid it. Scared my daughter out of her wits, haha when we started down the stairway and here was this raccoon in broad daylight sitting down at the stoop.

What in the hell is going on here! I go MIA for a bit and the place turns into a ghost town.

Hiya folks! Hope you're all doing well. Just popping in to say hey and to make sure you're all breathing.

BTW.... Whiskey darlin, What's up with all the Pre-vet stuff outside the door here?

Take care crew! Miss ya!

And just for good measure! :D

At this point I'm just happy its gone! LOL

I wonder if they'll let you know if it was rabid. Since they are nocturnal creatures, it is unusual that it was out and about during the day, not to mention it's strange behavior. I'm glad you were able to contain it.

Yeah I was really surprised that people weren't more concerned about a possibly rabid animal running loose. Meh, what do I know? I'm just a concerned taxpaying citizen right?
