I tried Applewood and 555. Didn't like any of them. Applewood is more like Apple and less like any tobacco. Too much flavor. I like casablanca, virginia, blast the most. In fact never left blast and virginia since started vaping. Too good. But very difficult for me to leave the bottle for 10 days to get decent flavor.

Heads up Backwoods fans! NY is trying to wield the ban stick again, and it pertains to sales as well. Please check the http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/forum/law-e-cigarette/154782-urgent-nys-outright-sales-ban-agenda-again.html thread for details and how to help out. For the love of all that's Backwoods, please remind them that the courts have already told the FDA twice that they should be regulating e-cig products as tobacco.

NooooOOOoooOOoooo! THAT'S HORRIBLE!

Applewood is more like Apple and less like any tobacco.

I really don't get comments like these... the irony here is that applewood contains very little apple... in fact, it's not the same apple flavor as his apple vapes...

I have noticed 4 or 5 of these posts in the last week... positive or negative... and I have have a few reflections... one, it's typically newbies... I really haven't seen someone whose vaped a lot of juices claim this... so I am thinking part of it is psychological because the word "apple" is in the word "applewood."

I also know newbies are a little less experienced with the idea of steeping... right out of the mail, applewood is going to play with your taste buds. It is more twangy and sour for the first 2-3 weeks. I like the un-steeped twangy flavor, but most folks prefer to let it sit. Let it sit, and the twang dissipates and the tobacco become exponentially more robust.

Applewood is more like Apple and less like any tobacco.

To my knowledge... and I could be wrong... Backwood's Brew's Applewood is the only applewood that uses a real tobacco base... In other words, the few other folks I know of that make applewood use an artificial flavor from a squirt bottle to create their tobacco base... BWB uses their maxboro base (I believe) which Don crafts from true tobacco...

I apologize if that sounds elitist... Vaping isn't wine tasting or cheese tasting...
What tastes good to you is good... if you don't like it, then you don't like it. I dislike caviar, fine scotch and I prefer robusta coffee over the varietals, that doesn't mean I have no taste, it just is what I like etc...

It's just that when a vendor like Don, or vaperite or my new bud ross at vapors etc goes through the effort and process of creating a unique and true tobacco flavor, rather than buying one from a squirt bottle... I think it deserves a little time to mature and develop it's full flavor before it is reviewed. judged, rated etc...

I have read a handful of lackluster BWB reviews recently from people who preface their review with things like "i know I just started vaping but..." and "I just got my applewood in the mail and..."

...and about 1/3 to 1/2 of these folks return later and say something like " I had given up on and forgotten about this flavor... tried it again and wowzers, it was completely different..."

Newbies can do great reviews and some newbies can bring in experience that far surpasses experienced vapors... but please... hold off on the number system ratings system until the flavor has actually had the time to develop. Write descriptive reviews rather than ratings and comments.

So, a little venting, I apologize...

Sure, post your opinion... positive or negative about my favorite vendor... heh, it's your opinion... just post a responsible and informed opinion...

One of the BWB crew PM'd me this past week about the recent proliferation of uninformed, negative newbie critiques... and begged me not to respond... not to breathe more life into what is most likely just attempts to rile up the fanboys/Fangirls... I see that nonesense happening to the TV lovers,, the Vapor Station lovers, the FSUSA crowd... people like to insert themselves in "I love this vendor" threads and say, "well, I think they suck suck suck."

This kind of nonsense is unavoidable as Don grows more popular... the reason there are so many different juice companies is because we all have different tastes... Don's juices are the best to many of us, but that's no guarantee that most others will love them too. Also, as Don grows more popular, more people will compare him to vendors X,Y and Z and try to anoint a king etc... it's just going to happen...

Lastly, this entire post is not a reaction to shaneware's post... just the first couple of sentences... the rest is a tangent...

you make some very lucid and well thought out points Tango. While I'm a little baffled about your confession to not liking fine scotch, I totally dig your point about juice reviewing. There is no reason a newbie can't write an informed review of a particular juice, but the newbie IS less likely to have a well rounded knowledge base of juices to compare against, thus a numbering system seems pointless in that case. Even though I don't really think of myself as a newbie anymore I still don't like numbering systems in my juice reviews and won't be using them any more. I think you get a lot more milage out of a descriptive review rather than someone saying...i tried Juice X from Vendor B and its taste=4/5, TH=3/5 and Vapor production=4/5......great....what did that review really tell you? Not much.

I think it is sound advice for all vapers to take these reviews with a grain of salt (this coming from an occasional reviewer too!) simply because of how subjective taste is. I try to make it a point of saying that in my juice reviews. Something like a, just cuz i like it doesn't mean you will, or a well placed YMMV to remind people they are reading one persons opinion and nothing more.

Nice post lastango.

I do have to slightly disagree on the above point. I think in some ways it really is.

That said,

Ive spent two months reading and learning everything I can. I have purchased from almost every supplier there is. To the point my wife now thinks I am slightly insane. I want to be as informed as possible.

I have seen this problem grow more and more lately. I feel it is from the rapid growth of ecig popularity. ALOT of it is Tons of new and uninformed people are coming in and speak up before they learn anything. Hopefully the issue will self resolve in a little time.

I haven't had a drink since 1996... but when I did, I was more of a George Dickle or Jim Beam guy ;-)

Yeah, I guess it can be like wine or cheese tasting, I think what I meant to convey more was that it's not as elitist...

and Phorbin, you are way beyond me in tasting experience... and the ability to discern flavor etc...

well that explains the no scotch then. I don't drink much any more myself, it hurts too much the next day, but I do still like a fine scotch, or better yet, a fine Kentucky Bourbon.

Regarding taste experience, thanks for the compliment but I don't think its correct, you've been vaping a lot longer than I have, and I know you have tried a lot of juices I haven't gotten to yet (but will eventually), so i'll put a bit of weight on your opinions if you don't mind. LOL
