Yeah he will be in for a treat down at Paris Island Im sure. He is ready to go and been working out and training for a while now so if he isnt ready by now he never will be. Went in for his final testing yesterday and will be on a plane to Paris Island Monday morning. Mom is a tad nervous and losing the baby but all will be good im sure.

AG, West Point is a very good beginning for a very promising career. Given the state of the union (economy) these days (much worse than '78, eh K-space?) - WP is a fine opportunity.

I know...I just don't like the thought of losing my little boy. He would make a fine officer, but I'd rather see him accepted at Rose-Hulman, Wabash, or Purdue & still be around. He's my only child.

Wow Don, your son is going into the Marines and your daughter is going into nursing. Sounds like you did a hell of a good job raising them.
Yeah they have both been good kids thats for sure. The daughter is the braniac for sure, High Honor roll and 1700 on SAT scores on the first shot

it was sort of the same situation for me. i graduated high school in 1978 the economy was in the tank back then(if you can remember that far back). so i went in for awhile and built up a nice college fund.
I was only 10 then so economically I dont remember LOL
i don't think anyone is ever really ready for boot/basic.
Yeah thats for sure. They told him to be prepared for the worst thing he will ever endure in his life and I dont think they are lying to him LOL
Yep, my buddy went into the Air Force enlisted at 24, he said it almost killed him. And that was the Air Force, which is supposed to be the easiest.
My brother did the Air force and he said it wasnt to bad, definately hard but not as bad as he expected but then again he is a hard head so it fit him well. Now he is working at a Air Force base in Utah for a private company but still a Govt job and working on all the Jets as a Crew chief for them.
Including the parents, eJoker. Remembering the tears and angst watching my oldest girl head for Navy boot North of the windy city... I think momma had a care package in the mail even before daughter left the airport in San Diego...!

Congrats Don on the new Marine - !!
Yeah I think the wife already has one ready to go LOL. He cant take anything with.

Thanks Papa

Yeah but atleast West Point Graduates dont see much in the way of Front lines and such. They are officers not grunts which makes a big difference and being a West Point Cadet is something to be quite proud of. Im only about and hour away from there to the North. ive worked there a few times about 7 years ago and it is a nice place.

Thats an absolute fact. I thought I was. Boy was i wrong! Its not the Physical part that was hard, at least not for me. They do all they can to mentally break you down. Ultimately its to see if youll crack under pressure. I walked away a better person from it though. I loved every minute that I was in the service. Surprisingly after all these years I still miss it from time to time.....

Don im sure you are very proud. I will think of your son often in his service to our country. The pays not great but the benefits (at least for me) were well worth it. Enjoy some time with your son this weekend im sure he is nervous!

boy this has got me looking back Papa. thinking about the odd/even license tag gas day. remember the 7 dollar limit?

I remembr the odd/even gas days, K-Space. And the long lines to get gas. My daughter was a wee one then and was a pain to load her up with toys and goodies and waited upwards to a hour or more to fill up - even if we still had a half-tank. We only had 1 car then so I would have to drap her up at 5am to take her dad to work so I could get gas for us. What a pain.
