i have been vaping a bottle of juice through a smoketech, dual coil tank with the chrome ends for a month now and really enjoying it. it came with a triple punched carto. (which is a beautiful thing), and i ordered a five pack of triple punched replacements. anyway, i wanted to load up a new one today for a different flavor, even though there was nothing wrong with the one that was in it. the first one out of the replacements was a dud, and the second would not quit flooding to the point that a normal draw would get juice in my mouth. the third one worked like a charm, so my question is...did i just get a bad batch? or, is this pretty typical in cartos? i have been vaping for 6 months now, started with a twist and a clearo, then to a vv box with a 306 atomizer and drip tip and then a lavatube using a combination of these setups, but somehow skipped the cartomizer thing until now. just looking for some other peoples experiences, cause i'm starting to wonder if i want to keep messing with it after leaving this initial "bad taste" in my mouth!

Where you least expect it....
Yes, quality control is often a problem with cartomizers. The one that leaked probably had the center tube punctured. My suggestion would be to punch your own cartomizers. This will not only save you a bit of cash but, you can make sure that you won't have any leaking issues.

I am becoming pretty experienced with Smoketech tanks. They have become my all day device.

Be careful assuming those flanged Carto's are duds. Many times Smoketech flanged Carto's are just a tiny bit too short and don't quite reach my battery's center post unless I pull the post up just a little bit. Also if you are going to use them heavily invest in a syringe that way if they do flood for whatever reason you can pull off your drip tip and suck some liquid out of the carto using the syringe. That will get you back on track quickly when dealing with a flooded carto.

I also actually prefer the single coil 1.7 extra large carto's in my tanks. They hit hotter and taste better IMO. I can also get a great hit at 3.4-3.7 volts which increases my battery life over using a DCC at 4-5 volts.

I don't care what anyone says, a carto tank that is running well is a better vape than any clearo I have ever used again IMO. :thumb:

The prepunched ones from hoosier ecig so far are my favorite for reduced flooding..

2.0 ohm Dual coil carto at 6 volts on one of the new KGO VV devices.. Same form factor as a ego twist but with an LCD read out and variable up to 6 volts.. (But be careful at 6 volts.. you need a high resistance carto or a 2.0 ohm dual coil (which equated to about 4ohms)

Just to show how everyone's experience and preferences vary in this field. I have probably a dozen carto tanks, mostly the Smoktek DCT polypropylene model, in addition to several pyrex tanks using cartos. These are my main vaping devices on a Provari, Silver Bullet, and BB.

I had been using the Smoktek dual coil replacements, primarily because that is what originally came with the tank. (Great marketing idea, Smoktech.) Well, I had some issues with punching my own cartos. No problem with the juice flow, but with the carto punch deforming the carto out-of-round to the point where it was difficult to pass it thru the end caps without a struggle. This couldn't be good for the O-rings. This ultimately led me to get the slap-yo-moma tank accessory tool from Big Daddy Vapors, which I highly recommend to anyone who uses carto tanks. The tool works great, but it didn't cure the bent cartomizer issues. I decided to go with the pre-drilled cartos that came with my original tanks.

By the way, the carto punch I was using was the Siam Mods punch tool from Phiniac, considered to be a pretty good tool.

I'd also noticed some burnt flavoring in the dual coil cartos, so when reordering replacement cartos, I thought I'd try the single coils. I got one and two hole pre-drilled, single coil cartos directly from Smoktek. The single hole cartos get the regular or thinner juices, the two hole cartos got the heavier, thicker, mostly VG juices.

I changed the cartos in all of my tanks. This has been the best vaping I have had yet. Great juice flow with the correct choice of juice with number of holes. I've noticed a moderate increase in my battery life with the single coils, arguably better vapor production, and best of all, no burnt taste after 3 weeks of use.

i have some syringes. do you mean drawing some out of the cotton material in the carto., or the tank? and the center post is on the carto, or the battery/device? where are you getting the flanged 1.7's from? are you using a saddle valve punch?

I draw it right out of the filler material in the Carto.

I buy them pre punched from Hoosiers.

I suppose I could pre punch them myself but like Batitude mentioned if you don't do a nice clean job punching them they can tear up your rubber grommets when you are installing and uninstalling them.

I get about a week out of a good running Cartomizer as it is. I am sticking with Hoosiers pre punched type for now.

Both smoktech and Boge seem to be having growing pains. Quality control has slipped a bit both places lately it seems.

Having said that I use Smoktech flanged prepunched (one hole) cartos in my DCT's and Phiniacs. I've had a couple I've had to pull the pins on a bit in 6 months, I've had a few that flooded a bit after a week's use. Most of my experience with them has been excellent. I use 50/50 mix in a single punched LR dual carto exclusively and on Provari, SB kicked or Helix without any issues. Tanks are just less fuss and bother when I am busy.

If not busy I drip.

I've had nothing but problems w/ST cartos, one leaky ST tank (bad grommet seal). Went through 4 cartos in a day, put the other 6 aside and gave them out at a meet. I haven't had issues with the Boge I have, though I'm not sure if they're left overs or I just got lucky.

Yep, seems they're all hit n miss depending on who you ask.

Agree 100%. Have used cartos and clearos and the best hit for me has always been carto+ tank. I also prefer the 1.7 single coil cartos on my 3.7 PVs. I've been reading about QC issues with both Boge and ST but fortunately stocked up before the problems began.
