How the hell do you guys fit a 3.7 v battery in the tube?
It's too short?
i have ultrafires 3.6v 1600mAH
I use a 18650.. it's really long.

Did you find 3.7 volts as satisfying as 5 volts?
You have to use 2, without resistor people have said its too much, with some people actually like it.How the hell do you guys fit a 3.7 v battery in the tube?

I vaped at 6+ volts. The vapor is hot and tastes like crap.
It's really hard on atty's, Went through atty's about one every 3-4 days.
Battery power is always going to be a bit more shakey than wall power. The resistor cranks the power down by about 1v, but your batteries max output when fully charged is like 3.2 or 3.4v, so you may notice when you use freshly charged batteries its going to be a bit tougher to get the taste and draw right. about 75% power batteries should be good to go, and should hit alright til about 25%. Not sure about the output of your Hardwired PT, but i am betting its output is 5v, and is a lot more steady.I am experiencing the same issues with the stock prodigy. 2 6v batteries through the resistor. It hits a lot harder than my 5v passthrough does. The first thing that happened is that it blew 2 of my older attys (only 2 weeks old). I had been using those same attys for at least 2 weeks on my 5v passthough with no problems.
The taste of the juices I have been using is not the same as my passthrough. It's too harsh for me and I'm having to experiment to get a more favorable taste.
The move from 3.7v to 5.0v was a good experience. Most juices actually tasted better, but the difference was very obvious. My feeling is that the prodigy is putting out more than 5v. My passthrough is simply a USB cable wired through a 3 amp momentary switch directly to the atty through a battery connection fitting.

I am starting to be 100% convinced that the prodigy is not made for straight 6 volts continuous vaping.
Atty's die.
Inconsistent puffs.
One harsh, one good, one full of vapor, one without.
Continuous flooding of the adapter with some liquid on the sides (hard to clean area)
My two prodigy's have the same problems.
The biggest problem is that the BE112 atty after a few hard puffs becomes really hard to draw through.
The pass through is heaven though...Thank God.
and if you go back and read the first few threads from months ago about the Prodigy, that's the exact reason that steve revealed for wanting to drop to 5v instead of 6v
6v can be more damaging to equipment if not done properly and with caution.
but still, i don't entirely get it. i've literally used the same atty since around april. i used it on a standard 901, and i've been using it on the Prodigy at 5v for months. not one single problem with it, still hits like a champ.
Can I ask for more specifics on this?
- What 901 atty manufacturer / model are you using?
- How many attys have been in rotation?
- What's you maintenance routine?
- What do you vape? PG? VG?
- How long is your average draw?
- Do you back off when your atty gets warm?
Sorry for the questionnaire, I'm just interested in the science behind your atty success - especially on a Prodigy at 5v. Thanks. =]
I will go to Radio shack tomorrow and buy some serious resistance.
hah, not a problem. i'll try to be as specific as possible, so if i don't answer something, ask me again, and please don't take it as me "dodging" the question
1. i'm using a true SLB 901 atty. and it's green. and pretty.
2. i used it for about 2 months (time frame is hazy here) when i got it because it complemented the black cart and 901 battery, and i used it daily, but i'm not a heavy vaper by any means. on a weekend or a good day, i MIGHT USE .5ml but it's unlikely that i've ever used more than 1ml in a day. a 3ml bottle lasts me a couple weeks, if i don't decide to carry a different flavor before then. so, i got it, used it exclusively, and i think during those 2 months i threw it in a shotglass of RC Cola and soaked it overnight, rinsed it out and used it again for a few weeks, right up until i got my Prodigy. i had one other atty i used during that time frame as a back up, for when i was cleaning/soaking the green one, or for a spare to let people try.
2a. heh, bit of continuation for second question. when i got the prodigy, i tried my trusty green atty on it for about a week, then put it into retirement because it seemed to be wearing down. i DO use more juice now with the prodigy. i started using a brand new atty with the prodigy about a week-two weeks into it, and a few weeks of it, i didn't seem to be getting better results, so i threw the green one into some RC for about 12 hours, then soaked in water for about 6, rinsed, dried, re-primed, and it still works like new. i've had it on my prodigy for...maybe a month now, and that's the only atty i use since switching back to this green one. sidenote...i've never blown an atty, or had one fail. i have the original atty i got in march i believe, with my first 901 kit...still attached to a cheap usb passthru and still works.
3. maintenance...see above. i've soaked a few in RC Cola, and i've soaked a couple just in water. i don't "swear" by it, but it's all i've tried, so i can't really comparei only soak every couple months anyway, or if i see a big drop in flavor or production. i don't even blow mine out daily. maybe weekly...
4. i vape mainly VG. i use unflavored PG nic diluted heavily in about 70/30 VG/PG and lorann/capella/etc flavor. i use more VG than PG. and by VG, i mean i actually use Wilton's Glycerine from the hobby shop, not actually "vegetable glycerin" though most argue Glycerine and VG are the same thing.
5. my average draw is 2-3 seconds. i mouth inhale, then to the throat. throat inhales seem to ALWAYS give me a harsh, nasty, burnt taste, but mouth pulls don't. so i can't physically inhale much longer than 2 or 3 seconds
6. yes, always back off when the atty gets warm. honestly, i've been toying with Pyramid Lipton teabags as filler, and seems to be working (and wicking) quite well with a 5v prodigy. i take 3 MAYBE 4 good puffs, then sit it down for about 90 seconds or more, 3-5 puffs fills my needs for the moment. after a few puffs and i sit it down...by the time i pick it up again, it's cool to the touch, and not hotter than my fingers, if that makes sense.
when i was dripping, i'd add about 2-3 drops, take about 4 puffs, cool, repeat (again, waiting 90 secs or more between).
per #6...that's my BIGGEST issue with vaping in general. i didn't smoke that much, but i did when i went to bars. i just loved smoking. i'd burn 2 or 3 cigs in a row, smoking down to the ...., but with vaping...you just can't. well, if you have like 3 or 4 devices i guess you could. but that's really the one thing i miss most, is chainsmoking.
so yes, i do cut down a lot of puffs with the Prodigy, but at 5v...a few hits here and there really does the trick.
did that answer? i can expand on anything you likei'm terrible with dates and times, if that seems a little sketchy. i got my first 401 kit in feb, my 901 in march, then the prodigy about...i forget, 2-3 weeks after first one shipped? i was pretty early on.
Thanks for the ultra-thorough response. This covered everything quite sufficiently. ;-)
I think the primary differential here is the quantity of liquid that we vape, as you're citing .5 to 1 ml a day, where I'm burning about 3-4ml a day. So, in practicality I'm vaping about 3-5 times as much as you are.
Either way, I'll be really happy if I can squeeze 1-2 months out of my 801 attys on my new Prodigy - which is what math would suggest given our respective daily intakes. Of course, atty life is a matter of both science and voodoo, so we'll see how it goes. ;-)
Thanks again for all of the info - you went above and beyond to provide all of that detail, and it's totally appreciated.
not a prob
honestly, i think #5 and #6 are the keys. i don't take super long draws, and i think doing mouth inhales maybe don't pull as much juice OUT of the atty, so maybe it stays moist for longer? and the cooldown is a MUST. i know it's a big problem for heavy vapers though, because you need to keep puffing. if you can pace it out and just let it cool a bit i think it helps tremendously.
i'm still going to try an 801 soon, i've been saying that for months...but i started buying non-ecig stuff, hehe. soon though.
The resistor that is in the prodigy isn't available from Radio Shack. Its a pretty strong resistor. I purchased about 15 of them off of e-bay for some modding projects.
