It is a hit piece. With all these mall kiosks going up it is bound to draw attention to ecigs and these people will sell to almost anyone to make a buck. Imo. Kids using these are what are really bringing on the heat.. Of course they don't talk too much about Kids smoking cigs any more. They have a new Demon now with the Ecig industry..

I find it a bit hard to believe 8th graders traveled that far for e-cigs. And had money to stock up to boot! Parents need to tighten up the purse strings if 8th graders are carrying around enough money for long train trips and ecigs!

I do feel that they should not be sold to children though, and this is making e-cigs look bad! Idiots!

Anyone here selling thier e-cig as a way to cure anything?

Didn't think so.

The FDA has "Long worried" about e-cigs... really? Really? or have they long worried (last 1-2 yrs) about the lost revenue income they could be getting by regulating another industry that doesn't need it.

New flash, candy looks like pills, caffiene is good for you, chlorine causes cancer, vitamin d cures depression, drinking too much water can kill you, caffiene is bad for you, there's more carcinogens in a pepperoni pizza than a cigarette... I'm sick of these hype stories that have no basis, no truth and drum up an inflated sense of importance.

News flash, I quit smoking and I feel good, I use nic juice.

Huh? Eigth grade and they had the money to not only buy a kit and some extras but also the fare to get them there and back?! This sounds very unlikely to me. I grew up in a well off home and never had that kinda dough even if I had saved every cent given to me since I was born till 8th grade.

Plus, there are contradictions in this (and the other articles linked on this article) such as saying the FDA is now just getting involved but then mentions the fact that for the past 2 yrs that they've been confiscating shipments.

Sounds to me like the author is some self-righteous know-it-all monkey.

"It's criminal to allow diacetyl and other untested flavoring agents to be used in these devices," said Dr. David Egilman, clinical associate professor at Brown University's Department of Family Medicine. "At the very least, it's not smart to intentionally inhale substances which have been proven to cause irreversible lung disease that has and can kill you."

Yeah gee....like analogs?? Analogs are okay, they are ok with the powers that be....all comes down to pulling in those tax dollars and paying big Pharma for Chantix (which makes you want to die) and all the other "rip off" price prescriptions.

They've been doing undercover stings on gas stations selling smokes to minors for years, but no one ever suggests banning tobacco - they just bust the store/employee. Argh!!!

Sounds to me like the author is some self-righteous know-it-all monkey.

He's won two pulitzer prizes, and he's actually a pretty highly respected journalist, at least in the realm of health and big business, and he has the ear of a lot of important people. So yeah, he's probably somewhat self-righteous.

Also, this isn't the first time he's written about diacetyl - http://www.aolnews.com/nation/artic...nding-its-way-into-microwave-popcorn/19273632 - this was another one of his big-uns. If you do a search on diacetyl and popcorn lung, you'll come across a ton of references to Schneider and his story. He digs and digs, and then pops a huge story that makes a major corporation or a governmental dept like the FDA look very bad, and they don't like that. He's broken other big stories as well. People do listen to this guy. Just tossing that out there for some perspective, as unwelcome as it may be.

...but, that said, he also does pump out a LOT of these kinds of stories, so who knows just how much the important people pay attention to each one of them. If you click through to his compendium of articles on AOL news, its a laundry list of everything from make-up to seafood to store receipts being bad for you.

Bpaulette....I don't mean to trivialize or minimize your concern about diacetyl and other ingredients......just pointing out the absurdity....and the fact that too many people just believe everything they read to be the absolute truth and fact without any research of their own into the facts of everything involved in the subject.

FWIW it's not Fox News. It's AOL News.

I posted " the link to this story was front page on Fox News"...where I found it. This means that this small article got a lot more attention having the link to it posted on the front page of Fox news. Yes... it is an AOL news story.

Naw, twilight, I didn't think you were trivializing anything. I brought up the author's creds because as soon as I clicked on the link, after having just recently been digging on that particular topic, I recognized his picture and remembered his story.

I'm also constantly amazed by how much they point fingers at POSSIBLE dangers of e-cigs, while totally ignoring PROVEN dangers of cigarettes. It baffles the mind

Understand. My comment was in response to this post:

Fox news.... Do people even take anything from there seriously anymore?

I don't buy this at all. I am less worried about the e-cigs which I believe to be a bunk story..8th graders have better things to buy..like clothes. music and whatever teens buy now. The problem is what the heck were they doing on that train? Please!
Who is behind this stuff? The let's save our kids people of course! The same dufus's who have all but knocked off any real info on the web and have search engines go right to P.G. contains poison...
