E-cigarette smoker's spat delays flight to Houston - Houston Chronicle

I read the article, then watched the video.

It seems to me that the media wants to take any opportunity to tie in and demonize e-cigs...

When you watch the video, it seems that the reason these two people were kicked off the flight has little to do with e-cigs, but more about them chanting Allah Ackbar, and not complying with rules durring flight.

OH I don't know... adherents of allah did a great deal of harm on aircraft a decade ago. More recently, people with similar religious beliefs were tackled for lighting shoes and underwear. They were intent on doing harm. Materials used to bring down airplanes can be disguised in laptops, baby formula, electric shavers, you name it. Most people are unfamiliar with e-cigs. I can't say I wouldnt react similarly if someone fitting a"the profile" started trying to "ignite" some unusual (to me) object. In fact, that's the main reason I think there've been no successful hijackings: public at large won't stand around hoping it'll be OK any more.

The were creating a disturbance, which is really why they were removed.

bear in mind, monday I had two non-users see me with my e-cig ask "Hey, did you hear about that guy who had an e-cig that exploded?"

Now that's two press opportunities in a week. And news people sell sensationalism. So hmm "e-cig explodes" and "muslim guy with e-cig taken off plane". sounds really scary doesnt it?

You're all correct, there really isnt much connection, beyond what the press likes to do to get ratings.
