One way to protect yourself against this sort of thing in the future is to pay with a US Postal money order, and mail it to the seller.
This way you have their mailing address, in case you want to "pay them a visit" if you get ripped off.
Plus, if they rip you off, and payment was made with a USPS money order, and sent through the US Mail, it makes their rip-off a Federal Mail Fraud offense, and most people--even rip-off artists--aren't willing to incur that sort of risk.
Anything I buy for more than about $100, I'd insist on either a FTF transfer, or payment by mail--and anyone who wouldn't agree to that is, IMO, not to be trusted...
Not all sellers will accept anything but PP and just because they don't want to wait around for a money order to arrive and clear the bank doesn't make them untrustworthy. Just my 2 cents.
