I've heard so many great things about this device, and just recently, I was torn on which device to purchase (between this and what I obviously went with, the ProVari).
A few things that made me choose the ProVari over the Darwin:
-
The on/off arm- It's unique, no doubt, but for my personal purposes, it's an inconvenience. I shudder to think I would have to take a tank or larger cartomizer (what have you), off every time I wish to turn the unit off or on. Specifically for dripping, it's not as bad, but even still, I don't think a drip shield can be on while the arm is in the 'off' position, can it?
-
No changeable battery- Perhaps this is just something I could easily have gotten over, but in my state of thinking (that of never using a device with a built-battery), it seems another inconvenience. Though I cannot say for sure, since I've never tried it out. The inconvenience being, of course, having to send the device in to eVolve to have the battery swapped.
-
Rattling sound- This is just a nit-pick, but, still a minor concern of mine none the less. Were I to pay $200+ for a device, I expect no rattling. Rattling sounds in a device like these is a conditioned sound (learned in my mind) to equate to something that is broken. Of course I know it isn't, but my mind will need re-conditioning to think otherwise and that is another, albeit minor, inconvenience.
If one day eVolve were to redesign the device and addressed my personal concerns, I'll surely acquire myself a Darwin V2, or whatever they will call it. It seems like an excellent device and the super 1up I personally believe the Darwin has over the ProVari is the stored wattage setting. (Which we all know, the ability to set the wattage and retain it, no matter what atty/carto resistance being used).
Nice review Basil, I always look forward to watching. You need to come up with a get-rich-quick scheme, as to allow you more time to make more videos
