BAT bought out Intellicig
Are you sure? If so, some evidence would be appreciated. I thought Intellicig was/is now called Nicolites (or that Intellicig was/is an e-cig sold by Nicolites).
Several years ago, BAT created Nicoventures to develop/market e-cigs and other new smokefree alternatives.
Nobody should be surprised that BAT is now selling e-cigs, as the company has publicly said it would be doing so for the past 2-3 years.
BAT, NJOY and Nicolites have lots of money to pay for applying for (er buying) a license from MHRA for one or two of their e-cig products (and/or for products that will be made to comply with future MHRA e-cig standards).
In the past week, NJOY and Philip Morris have endorsed FDA regulation of e-cigs for similar reasons. I expect Reynolds, Lorillard and one or several other large e-cig companies in the US to either endorse, or to endorse the concept of, FDA regulation of e-cigs.
And then when the FDA officially proposes the "deeming" and other e-cig regulations, most/all of the news media will report that the e-cigarette and tobacco industry supports FDA regulation of e-cigs (as the news media inaccurately considers "industry" to be just the largest companies in any industry).
