If the Samsung cord is hardwired to a wall plug, don't use it. If it has a USB plug, it's ok. A cord is just a dumb wire that can only carry current.

What can cause a problem is the mod device trying to pull more power than the power source can deliver. Some wall plugs and computer ports can't deliver the power needed and they can fail.

Then there's the issue of charging batteries that are connected in series rather than parallel. It can be done, but it eventually harms the battery cells.

Best bet is a dedicated external charger.

I use an external charger for the reasons stated above but also, it's so much easier and quicker to swap out a pair of batteries rather than charge them slowly via USB, I tend to be impatient and not want to wait. However, it is also better and safer in lots of ways, as well. You can get an inexpensive external charger from lots of places, I'm betting a lot of vape shops will have them on sale over Black Friday as well. Really worth the investment, and batteries are inexpensive as well, it's good to get them from approved suppliers could check out this blog re: safety issues: Mooch's blog | E-Cigarette Forum

Good luck!

I love to go against the grain so take this as what it is.

At home a quality external charger is a must, as well as additional batteries.

At work I often use a USB cord and block. I test consumer home audio equipment for defects and I couldn't tell you where the wall plug came from, but it's quality (Crutchfield doesn't do cheap) and a Samsung Cord from a few phones ago. Haven't had any issues. Battery goes into a charger at home once it dies and have not noticed any short term issues.

As some have said, balance may be an issue, don't know with Smok software. Some mods to balance (Drag comes to mind).

If you primarily charge at home, butly a spare set of batteries (reputable dealer) and a quality charger. You'll be glad you did.

I use a usb cord, but I use a one amp plug! That way the current isn't strong enough to damage the batteries or fry the board!
The actual charger is inside the mod. The USB adapter is simply a power source. The charging circuitry will only draw the current it needs so there's no danger in using a higher rated wall adapter. In fact, it's better as the adapter won't be pushed to hard risk overheating.

Generally speaking, internal USB chargers are less efficient (slower and may charge two batteries unevenly) than using an external box charger.

Weak link using an internal charger is the USB port itself. Frequent usage (wear and tear) tends to weaken the connective parts. For all intents and purposes, use the USB charger as an emergency or infrequent action, and use an external charger.

Hi and welcome. I always use an external charger, and always recommend it. It can damage your batteries, or the mod, to use the built-in charging board, even if it's not absolutely guaranteed it will happen. A good charger isn't that expensive, really. You can get a Nitecore D2 from a US seller under 20 bucks, and an I2 even cheaper. I suggest it for several reasons, in addition to the fact some damage is possible: I think a stand alone charger does a better job of taking care of your batteries so they last longer. Using the USB plug on the mod for charging wears it out and it might not then be available for a software upgrade. It's easier and faster to just swap batteries in the mod. If you charge in the mod, some can't be used while charging, and even if it can you're tethered to the wall by the length of your charge cord. Using a stand alone, and at least two sets of batteries, will make sure you have something that can work at whatever point in the future one of your batteries goes south-- they all do, over time-- and you don't have to go without your mod until you can get new batteries.

Bottom line: I will not say "thou shalt not." I will say I don't recommend charging in the mod.

My friend said charging the batteries on my new g priv with a Samsung cord will damage the batteries and said I should use an external battery charger instead. Will using the cord really affect my batteries?
Welcome and glad you joined.
Why gamble, your friend may know something I don't.

I was exactly in this position a few weeks ago. General advice is not to charge in the mod. The vaping community on this forum is awesome and may even end up saving my life by helping me stop smoking. But on this one I went against the general advice. I bought an external charger. Then I thought. Smok has made this mod and said it can be charged via USB. So why question them? I returned the charger and charge through computer. Works fine. Yes an external charger is better in some aspects. Faster, charges better etc. But charging in the mod is a great feature. No messing around removing batteries and just plug into computer at home or work and don't have the added expense. I wouldn't plug it into mains though. One day I might email smok and see what they say. If u can plug it into mains that would he awesome.

I'd suggest that (if you really prefer to not use an external charger) you use a wall adapter instead of a USB port on the computer. If something goes wrong and you're unlucky you might blow out the USB port and damage the motherboard on the computer. Much cheaper to replace a USB wall adapter than having to replace the computer.

When charging your batteries, it is suggested that you use an external charger. USB charging is totally optional.

When skydiving, It is suggested that you use a ripcord.

Ok, a dire analogy. But it illustrates that the consequences of not following the recommended course can be undesirable.

It's not a bad analogy except that you probably won't die on impact, though you may wish you had.

Honestly, I guess it's okay to charge by USB port but it's really not recommended although if smok says you can do it... I'd be worried about my batteries charging unevenly, that can happen. It's a bit harder on batteries. I use a wall wart for charging internal batteries, my computer can't die right at the moment, I need it for stuff.

Good luck, whatever you end up going with. What I love about an external charger (besides the safety stuff) is that it's so much quicker to charge and if you have two sets of batteries, you don't have to wait for it to charge, either.

Best of luck with whatever you decide...

Am I able to use just AA batteries?

No, do not use AA batteries, it didn't come with a user/instruction manual?

You need authentic name brand 18650 cells bought from a reputable source with a sufficient CDR to support the power ranges you intend to use.
