HI

I'm planning on getting an RX2/3 and I want to use the 3 battery option. I have 2 sets of dual batteries that I married which I'm using in my current mod. My question is can I buy 2 more battery and add 1 to each set to make them a set of 3, would it be dangerous? I really don't wanna have to buy 6 fresh one since that would be expensive and wasteful. I've been using these 2 sets of batteries for about 4 or 5 months, and their SONY 18650 VTC5 2600MAH HIGH-DRAIN BATTERY - 12C 30A. Another question, I have a I2 nitecore charger and if I have 3 married battery can I charge 2 than charge the third one separately?

Any advice is appreciated, thanks.

"Marriage" in battery terms means that a set of batteries is bought new and kept together for life. You can break the set of two or three and use them singly or in maintained pairs, but you should never marry them again. unmarried use places different loads on them.

It's not advisable since the "new" battery added to a set will charge and discharge at a different rates than the other two. This places more load on the older batteries that discharge at a different rate.

If you have a charger that displays MAH during charging, you could possibly find three out of your collection that charge at the same rate. That would require discharging the three down to the same cutoff point and then charging them in the charger that shows you MAH. If the numbers are close, then they would probably be good candidates for marriage.

It's easier and probably safer to just buy three identical new batteries and label them as a married set. Use the others as singles or doubles if they are already married.

That's just my opinion. Let's see what others say.

On the question of charging two, then the third separately, you can do that. It's the discharge curve that matters when you are using the three together in a mod. They should all match within tight specs when in use in a mod.

The RX mod will show you the voltages of all three batts while they discharge in use. Do the 5 click power off, then hold the fire button and the left bottom button down for a few seconds and wait for the battery voltage to appear. A new set that's married will usually stay within .1 to .2 volts of each other in the mod under use.
