I was wondering: if a PV takes an 18650 battery, can you use ANY 18650 battery? i found a 3100mAh protected Panasonic battery online. I'll copy and paste the url. I'm crossing my fingers these are ok to use.

PANASONIC 18650 PROTECTED NCR18650A 3100mAh FREE Shipping from Florida-USA. 18650 cell-Made in Japan, Protection IC's-Made in Japan

as well... does the provari use 18650 batteries? I'm thinking of getting one of those. paired up with this battery and BooM... AWESOME life... would last days!

anyhoo, hope someone can give me an answer.. my wallet is burning a hole in my pocket and i want to order some up for my new future device..

Thanks,

Zippy:blush:

first are you getting a provari?
in an electronic mod the protected arent needed as the devices have protection circuit in them
AND
the protection in the battery also adds length which could be a problem also.
AND
as the Mah goes up it also makes the battery longer.
i havent tried anything past the 2250 panny button top in a proV and dont think there is much room left after that.
Orbtronic - Panasonic CGR18650CH With Top Button, 2250mAh IMR High Drain 18650 Battery Cell-Made in Japan
rtdvapor also sells the real deal AW 2000 that provape sells but orbtronics rocks i have done much business with them and got my panni's and charger there.

also you will need to order the extention cap to use 18650 in the ProV

Somewhere in PA on my Ultra Limited
Those batteries are safe to use because of the short circuit protection added but are a bit too long for a Provari (without compressing the spring).

IMR batteries are what most venders (including Provape) recommend because 1) they have a higher safe max discharge current 2) they are made with what's called "safe chemistry". If there is a catastrophic short in a safe chemistry battery it vents hot gas but does not ignite. IMHO top contenders for batteries are going to be 1)AW IMR (18650 - 2000mAh) 2) Panasonic CGR IMR/Hybrid (2250mAh) 3) MNKE (1500mAh). The MNKE's are more used for ultra-LR on Mech mods but the other 2 are great in a Provari. Also for Provari you'll need "button top" batteries as the positive post is slightly recessed in the circuit board.

Hope this helps and welcome :)

perusing the site, i looked around and all the 18650s there seem to be the same length. 2250, 3100 and 3400mah.

And yes I'm thinking very hard about a provari. I really wanted the darwin, but they are too scarce and I don't have enough posts yet to get into the classified section of ECF to find a used one.

check the listings again i see the 2250 says 66.9mm
the 31 and 3400 says 68.9

you can try but its not worth the extra hours if it doesnt fit. as it is most people including myself get well over a day with 2000 to 2250 range. with 2 or 3 you just change one a day to be sure no big deal.

i think in 6 months i seen maybe 2 darwins for sale so dont hold your breath there lol.

Hi Shasta. The other issue with a protected battery is that if you load it hard (as some boost mods do) then you can over run the protection circuit. This would cause a very aggrevating condition for most anyone. I dont see anything in this cell that would lead me to believe that the protection could be over run(because its at8amperes) but I still would stick with a standard safer chemistry model just the same.

And yes they all will appear(some vendors just copy/paste mfr specs into their description) the same length but in the real world they will not be. I have some 14500 with protection(aw) and some 14500 without protection(aw) and the ones with protection are certainly longer. Good Luck whichever way you decide to go.

Shasta, you could get yourself a less expensive clone model to see if you like building the wick/coil. Then move up to the big leagues if you do. I can say that once you get the hang of it its very nice, but until then its one o the most frustrating things I have ever tried to accomplish in relation to vaping.... Your call really.

my finger is hovering over my mouse button ready to order the provari... i know i should move this to different thread, but what about those Zen tank atomizers.. they look slick and from the reviews I see, people love them. I just am not a fan of paying 150 for a tank. . thoughts?

Was in response to this within this thread........lol.. Its easy to jump past these things sometimes. .......
