i am a newbie to mech mods and i was wondering what type of battery i should be using. i just ordered the caravela clone and i was wondering what batteries should i go with. the AW IMRs? MNKEs? Efest IMRs? The new VTC4s?

My interests are with microcoils because they are pretty easy to build and perform pretty amazing but I am not looking towards builds lower than .5 ohms as of yet.

can somebody help me out please?

if further questions need be asked to give me a solid answer, please do so and ask.

thank you!

ive already read Baditude's blog on imr and icrs whilst doing a bit of research on batteries but i would like an opinion from the community as well.

i love to read and do reseach but i also like to get the opinions from the experienced vapers.

as of right now i am vaping on a regulated device from innokin. the mvp v2 vv/vw pv.

on my vivi nova tank i am running a 1.3 ohm microcoil build made from 28 gauge round kanthal wire with cotton wicks and i must say that the flavor and vapor production is much better than the prebuilt heads for this tank in my opinion.

i believe the max amp output this device puts out is 3 amps so im currently vaping this build at no more than 3.9 volts and nor more than 11 watts which this device is regulated to do on power mode.

Well, if you've done the research, you know that IMR or hybrid batteries are your best bet for a minimum resistance of 0.5 ohms. The only decision to make now is how much of a safety buffer you would like for shorts before getting into the battery's burst amp rating. I don't go under 0.5 ohms and my favorite are the Sony US18650VTC4 2100 mAh, 30A. For a 8A draw I would definitely chose a battery with over a 10A rating. Above that, this new Sony looks pretty good to me. There is another battery chart here you can look at here.

Thanks so much for ur input Ryedan!

i now feel a bit at ease that my understanding about mech mod subohm vaping, and batteries has been confirmed and not contradicted.

How do u feel about AW IMR batteries for subohm builds compared to the battery that u mentioned? and is the sony vtc4 battery considered a safe chemistry battery like that of the AW's?

Depends on the amp draw and how much you use the PV per hour.

I dont know if you've experienced vaping with an mvp v2 device and how long the battery last but i use it with a 1.3 ohm build at 3.7v most of the time and it usually lasts me a couple days before i have to recharge again.

with this being said, would you be able to give me some kind of time of use with these batteries? i would like to know an estimated time because i would like to order a few batteries and not just one. and since the mod that i will be getting has a 350, 500, and 650 mode, i would like to get a variety of sizes. unfortunately the vtc4 only comes in the 650 size so i was also looking towards the AW if im able to find them or the efest which i can get at out local brick and mortar.

Hi, i'm constantly interested in the central question of batteries, from my small experience the Sony 4 are , now, the only batteries that can be compared to the MNKE (with a bit more endurance) when it comes to drive with class and extract the best from dual coiled Ithakas with ribbon wire or funny setups mixing mesh, coton and wires . . I wouldn't back to Panasonic, Seiko blabla . . . ;)
In the 18500 or 18350 size, i experienced zero problem with the Efest v2. I keep AW only for size question, when it comes to use an old Stealth connector to a JustGG body , for example. I can be wrong, but the actual Efest v2 seems to improve their overall performance from the first batch of this same model. I think the relatively bad reputation of Efest came from the time of the v1 of this product, compared to the AW ImR of the same period. But its just my experience, on very few pieces, mass producted items like this can vary slightly in quality from batch to another.

You're welcome youngbapes. The AW 18650 1600 mAh at 24A is very good. I would buy that any time, but I think the Sony performs just a bit better.

Yes, the Sony vtc4 is considered safer chemistry. The AW uses IMR li-ion chemistry while the Sony is considered a hybrid, slightly different than IMR but also does not vent with flame like the IMR's.

I have not used the mvp v2. Nor have I used a regulated mod at below about 1.8 ohms.

There are a lot of factors involved in estimating the difference in battery time between these devices, device types, different resistances, setups and your vaping style with a new system. Making a wild guess, it would not surprise me if you found you were going through between one to three 18650 AW or Sony batteries a day with the new setup at 0.5 ohms.

I know that's a pretty big range, but it's just my guess so there is a lot of uncertainty in there.
