I own the xcube2 and went in to buy an rx200 but when I went to buy it the salesman told me I needed to buy 3 new batteries. I already own 4 batteries and was wondering do I really need to buy 3 new ones or was he trying to push his sales.

Nope, need to buy a whole new married set of "3" batteries just for that mod. This makes sure the batteries in a mod are balanced, same charging and discharging cycles, so one battery isn't older/weaker than the others and put undo stress on the other 2. Married batteries = bought together, charged together, used together, until death do they part.

Buy 3 new batteries? No you don't.

Is it advised? Yes. Kinda like buying used car parts. new parts are more reliable. Using old parts will need replacing sooner and its possible they could lead to more problems. You should buy new batteries at least once every 2 years, cause if your battery explodes or vents your going to need a new car!

I don't have anything that uses paired batteries, but I'm curious: do those of you who do have paired batts mark them somehow so you will know "this batt goes with that batt"? Maybe give them names and write "Jenna loves Joe" and "Joe loves Jenna" on them?
Yup. I just have paired numbers written on mine with permanent marker, but (like anything vaping) whatever works for you.

Only for batteries I pair on Valentine's Day.

Yep, I do at least, a simple number letter system. 1A/1B, 2A/2B/2C, etc

That's a good retailer! Most aren't smart enough to know about, much less advise on, battery safety!
Yes, you should buy batteries JUST for that mod, label them in a way you will know they go together. You can use a label maker, a permanent marker, fingernail polish, whatever you have handy.
The problem is no one knows how those batteries have been used and abused, how many charge cycles, how many deep cycles etc, any or all of them have been through. One weak battery in the set makes them all that weak!
Sorry about the added expense, but what are your hands and face worth?

I am no expert on batteries, but I follow what experts say to the letter. It's like anything else that you do, you accept the wisdom of those who know and they say married batteries are what is required.

In my case, the battery wraps are colored and in pairs in battery cases. In each mod I've owned since September 2015 (ea requires two batteries) it hasn't been an issue which mod they've been used in. I keep them straight by keeping 2 of any color paired in a battery case that holds 4 batteries having two different colors. (2 Brown with 2 Lt blue.)

I have several RX200S mods coming my way and they use 3 batteries, and I have 8 new batteries looking at me, which will not exactly work for a "paired" rotation. I need one more battery to really make it work.

I'm trying to stick to using the oldest batteries as often as I can - so as to dispose of them first.

I might just keep using my dual battery mods for now.
