I have a smpl mod and I was using a Samsung 25r 18650 battery. I had just received this mod along with the dark horse rba. I had recently just charged by battery fully and wanted to give it a test to see if it was working but used an i clear 30 because my wire doesn't come in till next week. My firing button got hot and the battery was pretty warm on first contact with the battery. There was no venting but it was considerably warm so I immediatly took it out and let it sit for awhile. Afterwards I put it back on the charger to see if it still had a reading. Any advice on what happened?

I was hoping it wasn't bad but lesson learned
Do any of you reccomend good batteries that can prevent accidents or help reduce the chances of this happening in the future
Thanks

Not in a smpl - that's not the problem and it won't help. If you intend to use that mechanical you have to understand a lot more about attys with adjustable positive posts to make sure that won't happen again.

You don't need to trade in your mod at the first mistake. I'd do some research before you throw anything else on top of it though...

what basically happened is you "short circuited" the battery with the iclear on it. The current was going straight from the battery into the threads of the iclear, and from there into the mod itself to complete the path to the battery. I've done it one or twice before when I was still using a 4nine mod.

As long as the battery still showed good/healthy voltage (above 3.5 or so) and charges up just fine to 4.2 volts, you should be OK. It's not a bad idea to have a multimeter to check your voltage directly if you don't have a charger that checks it for you. You can get a cheap multimeter from Home Depot, HarborFreight, or a pawn shop.

If you're impatient and really want to get the mod rolling, I'd source some kanthal from a local shop. Hell, if it's a good B&M (Brick and Mortar) they'd probably be happy to show you how to do a build on your dark horse...Just be sure to thank them for your time by buying some kanthal, wick, and/or juice before you leave. It ain't free for them to have the lights on and register running while helping you do a build.

Mechanical/hybrid mods are like driving a stick shift. You gotta know what you're doing to keep from F*ing it up. Don't run away scared cause you popped the clutch getting out of the driveway.
