Battery and atomiser quality.

I recently purchased a 'mini cig' kit from a supplier via ebay for a friend of mine who has no internet access. About a week and half passed between me ordering it and my friend using it and after a week one of the batteries died.

He called the supplier and was told he needed my email address. He then called back with this information but was unable to get hold of anyone so therefore left messages but no one got back to him.

So I then emailed the supplier and got a one line response -

“I only guarantee the batteries and atomisers for 14 days, they are consumable goods.”

So I emailed back and then emailed again and again but received no response. Eventually I sent another one saying that I would have to leave feedback on ebay (the only option left to me). An aggressive response followed quickly saying that my blackmailing had worked and that the faulty battery would be replaced.

It appears that in this instance ebay protected my friend from being robbed of £10 as it seems we would have been ignored without them.

My concern is that if I had spent nearly £20 on a battery and an atomiser and didn’t use them within 14 days of the order I am potentially throwing my money away.

Are these items really such poor quality that they can't be guaranteed for longer?

Has anyone else had similar experiences with suppliers?

some would say so.. others would disagree.. but the sellers mark up has to cover returns and the handling of returns..

the longer the guarantee the more returns the the sellers has to stand out of his mark up.. if his mark up is high he can offer a longer guarantee and stand more returns...

competition is driving the price of these things down.. this leaves less room for manoeuvre...

current ebay prices leave no room for manoeuvre...

how long these things last.. i aint gonna get involved in the argument.. people say different things.. but how much use they get plays a big part...

ps.. the life span has nothing to do with quality by the way.. its a design limitation..

UK sellers must be finding it hard at the bottom of the market.. chinese stuff has to be paid for in dollars.. the pound has gone from near two dollars to just below 1.6 dollars over the last couple of months..

buying costs have gone up big time.. competition has driven selling prices down..

we have reached the point where its as cheap to buy off a UK ebay seller as it is from a chinese seller...

this all sounds good.. until u realize the UK seller is not making any money..

if the pound drops any further against the dollar this situation is gonna get worse.. it seems to be holding around the 1.6 mark now.. i expect it to go down..

I haven't heard of anyone being refused replacement parts under guarantee yet so it could be a good option if you're willing to return duds. Sedansa is based in Europe so is easier for returns than Wayne from Heaven Gifts who sells the Ruyan 'Bling' ecigar, he's in Asia.

Sedansa is not as popular as Janty but the people who prefer them are often quite experienced esmokers and know how a good device should work.

Don't forget, the warranty is useless for keeping up to date with the latest technology, you might only want the current model for a year or so.

Thanks Kate - I've just been having a read of some other threads regarding warranties :)
Which product are you happiest with? Is the Diva any good?
I have no problem returning things, it's that or pay again. I hate parting with cash only to have a supplier tell me "tough sh*t it's a consumable item" when what they've just sold me didn't last a full week.

Yeah, that's the problem with hardware, in reality it's not going to last months so it's pay to replace or use a guarantee.

I got a Sedansa Diva when I was a newbie and didn't get on with it. I reckon it was bad technique though, I didn't understand the battery cut off and thought they were bad. The atomiser is very efficient too and takes a bit of getting used to (much like a Janty), some folks have a problem with a burned taste. I sent mine back within the thirty day guarantee trial period and got a full refund, no problem. So it costs nothing to try it and see.

I think the Diva is a good product, some people here use one as a primary device. However, the Janty Kissbox Classic has some extras that might interest you. It's performance is similar to the Diva but it comes with a manual switch, that is a real plus, no hard drawing for good vapour. You can also get a USB battery cable with it and that's handy, especially considering how unreliable batteries tend to be.

That's about the extent of my knowledge, the only other device I know anything about is the Ruyan 'Bling' ecigar. That's good but I wouldn't recommend it anymore to a newbie or as a primary device. It gives great flavour, the atomiser doesn't seem to burn as hot as others and batteries are very cheap to replace but when the atomiser gets gunged up it's a very hard draw and can be frustrating. It's not as simple to replace either, it has to be sent back to Asia.

let me know after a year has past..

kate should do a poll.. or a couple of polls how much do users spend on their habit..

one for hardware which includes postage for returns or spares.. lets say estimated over a six month period.. from actual users..

one for carts liquid and what are normally considered consumables..

we might all have better ideas then what e smoking can or does cost..

A Diva plus spare atomiser and battery costs €154/£124. You would then have a complete device and a back up for when you have to wait for replacements. Theoretically that should set you up with a decent quality device and backup for five years, no other purchase necessary apart from postage and juice.

I'd be interested in what you finally decide to do, let us know how it goes.
